Ｔokyo govt to set up tourist info facilities at convenience stores

 The Tokyo metropolitan government plans to install computer tablets at convenience stores and other facilities in the capital starting next fiscal year to provide information in English for foreign tourists, it has been learned.

The metropolitan government intends to include the relevant expenses for the terminals in its budget proposal for next fiscal year. It will subsidize the costs for the tablet terminals, installation of free wireless LAN service and English signage to identify the facilities that contain the tourist information counters.

The terminals will provide English-language services through video chat technology. They will be installed in convenience stores and other commercial and public facilities that are suitable for providing tourist information, such as drugstores and community centers.
