皆さんはどのようにして英単語を覚えていますか？私の英単語を覚える方法は、周りの人に「私には知らない英単語はない！」と豪語することです。この方法、意外と効果的ですよ！
2010年7月２０日の英単語は、「 cinch 」を取り上げてみました。
例えば、
She had studied hard and knew that the test would be a cinch . という使われ方があります。
意味は、
any undertaking that is easy to do
という意味になります。
同じような意味の英単語は、
breeze,
child's play,
duck soup,
picnic,
piece of cake,
pushover,
snap,
walkover
です。
これらの単語を覚えるのは、朝飯前と言いたいですね。
【復習】
７月１４日の英単語は、「 vista 」でした。
例えば、
From where they now stood they could look forward down a long vista of beech woods and jagged（とがった）rock-strewn wilderness, all white with snow, to where the pass opened out upon the uplands beyond
という使い方がありました。
意味は、
a distant view or prospect, especially one seen through an opening, as between rows of buildings or trees
で、
aspect, panorama, prospect, scene, view
と同じ意味でしたね。
さぁ、ご一緒に、「私には知らない英単語はない！」と言ってみましょう。

Scientists say the multibillion-dollar fishing industry in the area of the Gulf oil spill could be in grave danger, as they are already seeing early signs that the spill is altering the marine food web by killing or tainting（汚染する、傷つける）some creatures and promoting the growth of those more suited to the polluted waters.
There has been a massive die-off（大量死）of pyrosomes - tube-shaped, gelatinous organisms fed on by endangered sea turtles - near the spill area, and droplets of oil are being found inside the shells of young crabs that constitute an important part of fish, turtle, and shorebird diets.
As predators eat contaminated marine life, toxic oil could be introduced into seafood stocks.
