ミニバスに鶏 in 東ティモール
鶏を吊るすミニバス↑（2014年6月28日、ディリ、東ティモール） ミニバスといえども、いろいろな荷物を積んでいます。 野菜や薪、家具などを積むのは日常茶飯事です。 鶏を吊るして走っていることもあります。 逆さに吊るされたニワトリは、暑さと振動に参ってしまっているのか鳴声を出す元気もないほど弱り切っています。 たまに魚を吊るしたミニバスも見かけます。 中型バスほど大型の荷物を乗せることはありませんが、それでも様々な荷を載せることのあるミニバスです。【Bon appétit !】 In Dili, you can hail（大声で呼びとめる）a ride on a mikrolet for 25c to get around. The mikrolets are numbered, and each number goes on a set route. To get off, simply tap your coin on the metal handrail and the driver will stop for you. You pay the driver when you get off. Mikrolets, buses and "angunna" (truck with open-air back for passengers) are your main means for getting from one district to another one. 未完成でも供用開始 in 東ティモール
供用開始した橋↑（2014年6月28日、ディリ、東ティモール） 工事中の橋が、突然供用開始となりました。 まだ、外壁や周りの工事は行っていますが、とりあえず車が通れる状態になったので、早速車を通し始めました。 空港から街の中へ向かう時に、この橋を渡ることになります。 今まで使っていた対面通行の橋は、街の中から空港へ向かう時に使います。 それぞれ2車線づつありますのでスムーズに車が流れます。 それにしても、まだ完成検査もしていないし、竣工式もしていません。 使えるものを使わないなどということは考えられないのでしょう。 これが東ティモール流?【Bon appétit !】 The driving in East Timor is generally passive and traffic is far from dense; however, vehicles and roads are generally in poor condition, and are made more hazardous by wandering livestock. 玉子売りの少女 in 東ティモール
玉子売りの少女↑（2014年6月28日、ディリ、東ティモール 道端で少女が2人、玉子を抱えて座って休憩しています。 玉子売りの少女です。 玉子を売り歩いている少女を見かけるのは初めてのことです。 普段見かける玉子売りは、少年ばかりです。 写真向かって右側の少女は珍しいことに英語が話せます。 しっかりした教育を受けているのでしょう。 将来の東ティモールを担う子供です。 玉子を食べて元気に育ってほしいものです。【Bon appétit !】 Julieta Soares, 26, a Timorese mother of six, said her family ate what they could grow or afford in the fishing village of Tibar, 5km outside the capital, Dili. "We never think about our food each day. The important thing for us is to find something that can fill our stomachs, whether it is rice, cassava, corn, or bananas." Her family's diet rarely contains meat, eggs or dairy products, because of the cost, but her priority is to avoid hunger: "Just as long as we do not starve." 橋の完成間近 in 東ティモール
完成間近の橋↑（2014年6月27日、ディリ、東ティモール） 昨年の9月16日から工事に入ったコモロ川に架かる橋の取壊しと新設工事がだんだんと完成に近くなってきました。 まだ完成はしていませんが、人は、勝手に新しい橋の上を歩いています。 この橋ができあがると、空港から街へ向かう時にはこの橋を使うことになります。 現在対面通行で使われている現在の橋は、街から空港へ向かう時に使うことになります。 古い橋は、歩道が狭くて歩きにくかったのですが、今度の橋は歩道と車道の間にガードレールが付いているので、今までより安心して渡れそうです。【Bon appétit !】 PM Xanana Gusmao increase tensions after KAK began to walk into the government's corridors and investigate members of government suspected of involvement in corruption, collusion and nepotism, in particular the Finance Minister Emilia Pires. 離れの一軒家の家族 in 東ティモール
家の前で記念撮影↑（2014年6月22日リキサ県、東ティモール） 山の道路沿いの一軒家に来ました。 このあたり、家と家の間が離れています。 斜面がきつく、家を建てるテラスの様な所が限られていて、一軒家がポツンポツンとあります。 写真の家にいる小学生の男の子は良く見かけますが、今日は遊びに行っているのかこの辺りにいません。 そのかわり、今日は、家の人が外に出ています。 自転車を停めて、なんとなく言葉が通じない会話をしたりしてちょっと休憩です。 皆さん笑顔が素敵で、たくさんの元気をもらいました。【Bon appétit !】 As one of Asia's poorest nations, East Timor will rely on outside help for many years. 野菜売りの少女、天秤棒姉妹 in 東ティモール
二人で天秤棒を担ぐ↑（2014年6月22日、リキサ県、東ティモール） いつも野菜を売っている小さな姉妹がいます。 二人で一本の棒を担いで道を歩いています。 自転車に乗って首都ディリの西隣にあるリキサ県へ行くといつも見かけます。 朝、お早うの挨拶をしてすれ違います。 昼、ディリに戻る頃にまたすれ違うこともしばしばです。 午後は野菜売りから解放されればいいのですが…。【Bon appétit !】 Widely known as a beautiful location, it has a breath-taking view of the Ombai Strait, which is most visible as you drive into Liquiçá from Dili, rounding the last mountain curve before descending into the valley. The beaches are rocky, as are most beaches on East Timor, but nonetheless beautiful. The river that flows down to the sea from the mountains is dry, except during the monsoon season. During this time, the main road washes out several times, and is repaired each time by the local population. 家族で水汲み in 東ティモール
早朝の水汲み↑（2014年6月10日、マナツト県、東ティモール） 家族がそろって朝の水汲みに来ています。 水汲みは子供の仕事となっていますが、家族皆でこうしてやってくることもあるようです。 小さな子供はただ見ているだけで、もっぱら大きなお兄さんが水を汲んでいるようです。 お父さんはたばこを吸っています。 お母さん？は、洗濯を始めています。 村の中に蛇口があるので、水汲みも随分楽になったことでしょう。【Bon appétit !】 In Dili there is a sedimentary（堆積）aquifer（帯水層）that offers up a large supply of good quality water for anyone who needs it and the city’s residents benefit from infrastructure to ensure people get the water they need. But in the highlands of Aileu and Manatuto, outside of Dili, collecting water is a desperate daily struggle. ついに発見、カット野菜 in 東ティモール
カット野菜にして袋詰め↑（2014年6月10日、マナツト県、東ティモール） ついに発見です。 数種類の野菜を切って袋詰めして売っている人がいました。 いわゆるカット野菜です。 お店の女将さんが、まな板の上で野菜を切っては袋に詰めています。 フルーツの販売は時々見るのですが、野菜は見かけなかっただけに驚きました。 と言っても、日本のように衛生管理を厳重に行っているという感じではありません。 こうして客の目の前で作っていて、かつ、作るそばからその場で売って行くので、衛生上大きな問題になることはないのでしょう。 カット野菜の様な工夫をする人が見当たらなかった東ティモールの市場で、こうして、工夫して、人と違うことを行うビジネス感覚を持った人がいることに感動しました。【Bon appétit !】 Fresh-cut tropical fruits on the market today include melons, cantaloupe, watermelon, mangoes, mangosteen, rambutan, jackfruit, pummelo（ブンタン）, papaya, durian, grapefruit, pineapples and fruit mixes. 写真を撮って!! in 東ティモール
村で撮った母子↑（2014年6月22日、リキサ県、東ティモール） 自転車のトレーングを兼ねて、5時間程山道を登って走ってきました。 何度も通っている道で、途中に散在する集落の人とも何となく顔見知りになっています。 言葉はなかなか通じませんが、自転車を停めて止めて話をすることもしばしばです。 写真をと撮ってほしいと言われることがたくさんあり、男性や子供たちだけでなく、お母さん方や女性たちも時には積極的に写真を撮られたがります。【Bon appétit !】 The name "Timor" derives from timur, the word for "east" in Indonesian and Malay which became Timor in Portuguese. 恐るべき学校 in 東ティモール
手作りの教室での授業↑（2014年6月18日、ディリ、東ティモール） 英語を全く知らない生徒たちが短期間で自由に英語を操っているという話を聞き、その学校を訪問しました。 うめきんさんのブログでも紹介されたことがある私設学校です。 生徒たちと話をしてみます。 皆、自然に英語を話します。 何年間習っているのか聞くと、8ヶ月ですという答えが返って来ました。 2年間のプログラムで、既に英語で議論することができるレベルに達していました。 この学校は、2年間無料の教育を提供しています。 生徒は全国から集められ共同生活を行い全人教育を受けています。 貧困等で教育を受けられない子供も多く来ています。 プログラムは英語のほかにコンピュータ、会計、リーダーシップ等を中心に組まれています。 一般的に教育の機会が少ない女子教育にも力を入れていて、500名いる生徒のうち300名が女子生徒となっていました。 東ティモールの将来を担う素晴らしい人材が輩出されていることに驚きの連続でした。【Bon appétit !】 Science of Life Studies 24/7 (SOLS 24/7) is a non governmental and non political international organization that offers a free comprehensive two-year training and boarding program on life-skills education for disadvantaged and at-risk youths from poor communities for free. Most youths who join the program are not able to acquire a proper school education or are unable to pursue higher education due to financial difficulties or otherwise. The program has focuses on academic skills, such as English, computer skills (hardware and software), ICT, accountancy as well as character and leadership skills. SOLS 24/7 has also made it a policy to accept the same number of male and female students with an emphasis for female students who tend to be sidelined for education opportunities by their families.

トラックによじ登る女子生徒 in 東ティモール
遠足？に行く女子生徒たち↑（2014年6月20日、ディリ、東ティモール） 道路わきの女子生徒たちが、トラックの荷台へよじ登っています。 今日は、遠足なのでしょうか。 いつもは制服を着ていますが、今日は各自が自由な服装をしています。 それにしても、このトラックに乗り込むには、かなり高くまでよじ登らなければなりません。 はらはらしながら見ていましたが、皆さん無事にトラックに乗り込むことができて、めでたしめでたしです。【Bon appétit !】 Dili International School is an international English-language school situated in Dili, the capital of East Timor. 燃える空 in 東ティモール

珍しくかまど in 東ティモール
かまどを使って料理↑（2014年6月18日、東ティモール） 目の前にかまどがあります。 燃料の木をくべながら大きな鍋でご飯を炊いたり豆腐を炒めたりしています。 ここの厨房はかまどを使っていますが、東ティモールでかまどはほとんど見かけません。 多くの場合、適当に火をおこし3か所に石を置いてその上に鍋を載せるだけです。 熱がどんどん逃げていきますので、燃料効率は相当悪いでしょう。 かまどがあれば、燃料の木も少なくて済むと思うのですが、まだまだかまどが普及しない東ティモールです。【Bon appétit !】 One of problems of cooking over an open fire is the increased health problems brought on from the smoke, particularly lung and eye ailments（病気）, but also birth defects（異常、欠陥）. Replacing the traditional 3-rock cook stove with an improved one and venting the smoke out of the house through a chimney can dramatically improve a family’s health. Deforestation and erosion are often the end result of harvesting wood for cooking fuel. The main goal of most improved cooking stoves is to reduce the pressure placed on local forests by reducing the amount of wood the stoves consume. Additionally, the money a family spends on wood or charcoal translates into less money being available to be spent on food, education, and medical care; so an improved cooking stove is seen as a way of boosting a family's income.

ニンニクを並べる↑（2014年6月10日、マナツト県、東ティモール） 台の上にニンニクを並べています。 これからお客さんが来るので、急いでニンニクを並べています。 タマネギを先に並べることにしたのか、タマネギを並べ始めました。 アサツキのような小さな物まで並べています。 見栄えを良くしようとしてか、積み上げて塔のようにしていますが、あまり高くまで積み上がりません。 東ティモールの首都ディリの東側にあるマナツト県。 売り物のディスプレーで大忙しの市場の朝です。【Bon appétit !】 The economy of East Timor is ranked as a low income economy by the World Bank. 国旗飛び交う in 東ティモール
ワールドカップの応援一色↑（2014年6月16日、ディリ、東ティモール） 街中で国旗がはためいています。 街を走るオートバイの運転手の背中で、スーパーマンのマントのように国旗がはためいています。 国旗を振りながら街を歩いている人がいます。 多く見かける旗は、やはり東ティモール植民地時代の本国ポルトガルの旗とポルトガル語を話すブラジルの旗でしょうか。 今日は、次の試合で戦うこととなるドイツの旗とポルトガルの旗が特に目立ちます。 東ティモールはFIFAワールドカップで湧いています。【Bon appétit !】 In 5 October 2012 Timor Leste "Sol Nascente" win their first international match against Cambodia which they score 5-1. 朝日に煙るヤキトリ in 東ティモール
朝のヤキトリ屋↑（2014年6月10日、マナツト県、東ティモール） モクモクと煙が出ています。 朝日の光がまぶしくて何が燃えているのかよくわかりません。 近づくにつれて、見えてきました。 ヤキトリを焼いています。 朝日で串に刺したヤキトリが一部輝いています。 朝からのヤキトリは、少々違和感がありますが、ここ東ティモールのマナツト県では普通のことなのかもしれません。 ヤキトリ屋さんの後ろには、たくさんのキャベツが台の上に置かれて売られています。【Bon appétit !】 Nothing is easy about East Timor (Timor-Leste in the locally preferred Portuguese) and that’s both its blessing and its curse（災い、のろい）. Sure the roads are crap（やばい、くそ）and getting from one place to another can take forever, but the flip side（裏面）is that you’ll rarely be following in others’ footsteps. 街なかの夕景 in 東ティモール
街の中で楽しめる夕焼け↑（2014年6月13日、ディリ、東ティモール） 日が落ちて西の空が赤くなってきました。 夕焼けです。 ここは、東ティモールの首都ディリを東西に走る国道一号線です。 海岸でみる夕焼けは何とも言えない美しさがあり、とても贅沢な時間を楽しむことができますが、街の中にいてもそれなりに南国の夕景を楽しむことができる東ティモールです。【Bon appétit !】 Timor-Leste is a beautiful and multi-faceted country, a unique mix of South East Asian, European and Melanesian cultures. 夕暮れの野菜屋台 in 東ティモール
野菜や豆腐売ってます↑（2014年6月13日、ディリ、東ティモール） ホテルへ戻る途中、近所のチモール人とすれ違いました。 野菜を入れた袋を持っています。 「こんなに買って50セントだったのよ。」と屋台で購入してきた空芯菜を見せてくれました。 空芯菜が４-5束程、袋の中に入っています。 かなりの量です。 日が暮れてきたので投げ売りしているのでしょう。 閉店時に安く購入するのは世界共通かもしれません。【Bon appétit !】 As agriculture is the main occupation in East Timor the primary food include of rice as it is cultivated hugely in this country. 珍しい田の除草 in 東ティモール
除草作業の男性↑（2014年6月10日、マナツト県、東ティモール） 目の前に田んぼがあります。 田んぼの周りを柵で囲って水牛等の動物が入らないようにしています。 田んぼで、男性が除草作業をしています。 条間に除草機を入れて押して行きます。 除草機で除草をする光景は東ティモールでは先ず見ることはありません。 珍しいです。 この田は、田植えの時に株が一直線に並ぶように植えているので、このような除草機を使うことができます。 普通は適当に苗を植えたり、種を直播していきますので、株が一直線に並ぶことはありません。 草取りをする人はベトナム人くらいかと思っていましたが、東ティモールにもいたので驚きです。 （実は、この田は、個人の田ではなく、公的機関の試験圃場でした）【Bon appétit !】 Two consignments（委託貨物、送り荷）of breeder cattle from the Northern Territory will be flown to Timor-Leste in the coming weeks, as part of a landmark deal to boost that nation's herd size and improve genetics. 海沿いをジョギングする女性 in 東ティモール
海岸沿いのジョギング↑（2014年6月10日、マナツト県、東ティモール） 早朝の海沿いの道。 向こうからジョギングをしている女性がやって来ます。 道は海に浸食されてギザギザになっていますが、海に落ちないように走っています。 学生とすれ違う時に挨拶をして走りぬけています。 もうすぐ私の横を走り抜けますが、挨拶してくれるかなぁ。【Bon appétit !】 Manatuto is one of the districts of East Timor, located in the central part of the country. It reaches both the south and north coasts of the island, and is only one of two districts to do so (the other is Lautém in the far east).The district is known as the birthplace of Xanana Gusmão, later to become the nation's first president and now the prime minister. 大漁を願って出発↑（2014年6月10日、マナツト県、東ティモール） 太陽が水平線に顔を出しました。 早速、漁師たちがボートを押して出漁します。 今日は少し波が荒いようです。 横波を受けないよう慎重に沖に出て行きます。 先ほどまで真っ暗でしたが、あっというまに明るくなる東ティモールの夜明けです。【Bon appétit !】 But the path of the righteous is like the light of dawn, which shines brighter and brighter until full day.（Proverbs 4:18）

建てたばかりの銅像があぁ～ぁ in 東ティモール
3週間で下ろされる銅像↑（2014年6月8日、ディリ、東ティモール） 2014年5月18日に除幕式を行ったニコラウ・ロバト元大統領の銅像（2014年5月17日のブログ参照願います）が、今日、重機で台座から下ろされていました。 一体どうしたというのでしょうか。 ある人に聞いたら、「ライトアップするための工事を行うので、一旦、銅像を下ろすのだ」と言うことでした。 ライトアップの工事なら、わざわざ台座から銅像を下ろさないでもできそうなものですが…。 そもそも、計画をちゃんと作ってから銅像を建てればいいのにと思いますが、誰かが突然ライトアップしようと言ったのかもしれません。 いかにも東ティモールらしいと思います。 【Bon appétit !】 Presidente Nicolau Lobato International Airport, formerly known as Comoro International Airport, is an airport located in Dili, the capital of East Timor. 鋏で具を切る食堂 in 東ティモール
食べごろの大きさに鋏で具を切る↑（2014年6月6日、ディリ、東ティモール） 昼食にスープの食堂へ行きました。 初めて入る食堂です。 どんぶりに、好きな具を入れてレジに持って行くシステムです。 具は、おでん種のような感じで、豆腐、小さなロールキャベツ、がんもどき、煮玉子、ボール天のような物、餃子、ラーメンの麺、ビーフンなどがあります。 イワシのつくねの様なものもありますが、肉団子かもしれません。 それをレジの所にもっていくと、お店の女性が鋏で具を一口大の大きさに切ります。 飲み物が飲みたい時はこの時に注文します。 私は、フルーツジュース缶を頼みます。 支払いを終えて席に座って待っていると、注文した料理、フォークとスプーン、飲み物をお店の人が持って来てくれます。 胡椒味が強かったですが、なかなか美味しい麺入りスープです。 また来たいと思いました。【Bon appétit !】 Bakso is Indonesian meatball or meat paste made from beef surimi and is similar in texture to the Chinese beef ball, fish ball, or pork ball. 洗濯物の万国旗 in 東ティモール
洗濯物が連なる（2014年5月27日、ビケケ県、東ティモール） 家の中から紐が伸びて来て、木に結ばれています。 紐には洗濯物が干されています。 日の光が強烈ですので、洗濯ものはすぐに乾いてしまいます。 そのせいでしょうか、大量の洗濯物を干している家をよく見かけます。 何十人の家族が住んでいるのだろうかと思えるほどの洗濯物が干されていることも良くあります。 洗濯は派手にたくさん行う東ティモールです。【Bon appétit !】 East Timor's poverty problem is a major after-effect of the independence struggle against Indonesia, which seriously damaged infrastructure and dislocated thousands of East Timorese. 懐かしい田園風景 in 東ティモール
田植えの人がいっぱい↑（2014年5月27日、ビケケ県） 目の前にたくさんの田んぼが広がります。 田んぼには水が張られ、田植えの準備ができあがっています。 雨季作の収穫が終わり、乾季作の植え付けが始まりました。 苗代の稲を田んぼに植えていきます。 あちこちで田植えが行われています。 日本でも昭和40年代の初めの頃までは隣近所総出で田植えを行っていましたが、このような光景は最近は減って来ました。 懐かしい風景です。【Bon appétit !】 Timor-Leste has 14,916 sq km (1.49 M ha) of land but the general topography is mountainous. Land suitable for cultivated crops is very small consisting largely the alluvial（沖積の）flat lands or coastal plains. Production of staple food crops, rice and maize, dominates the agricultural systems in Timor-Leste. The estimated production areas are 38,000 ha for rice and 120,000 ha for maize. Rice and maize are equally important as staple food crops, however, land suitable for rice production are limited and maize is more widely grown in the uplands including hillsides. お母さんの足に抱きつく in 東ティモール
足にしがみつく子供↑（2014年6月1日、リキサ県、東ティモール） 自転車で山道を下っていたら、小さな子供がそろそろとあちらからやって来ます。 変な人が山道を下ってきたので、見に来たようです。 私が近づくにつれて、子供は立ち止まってしまいました。 と思う間もなく、走って行ってお母さんの足にしがみついてしまいました。 そんなに怖い人に見えるのかなぁと思いながら脇を通り過ぎようとすると、じっとこちらを見ています。 興味があるようです。 自転車を停めて近づくとお母さんの足にしがみついて泣きそうになってしまいました。 トラウマにならなければいいのですが…。【Bon appétit !】 The education system of Timor-Leste was destroyed during the conflict to achieve independence from Indonesia. 籠を背負って山へ in 東ティモール
これから山へ出発↑（2014年6月1日、リキサ県、東ティモール） 山道を自転車で下っていたら、高齢の女性に声をかけられました。 籠を背負っていて、今から山に行くようです。 「写真を撮ってほしい」と言っているようです。 自転車を停めて近づくと、旦那の所へ寄っていて、籠を背中からおろしてポーズを撮ります。 旦那さんは、俺はいいよと言っているような雰囲気ですが、一緒に写真に入ります。 娘さんも家から籠を持って出て来ました。 お母さんと一緒に山に向かいます。 いったい何が取れるのでしょう。【Bon appétit !】 Despite the advances made over, malnutrition among children under 5 years of age remains a public health problem in Timor-Leste. 入出国の繰り返しはご法度?? in タイ
手前はタイ、向こうはラオス↑ 5月末に、在タイ日本大使館からタイ入国に関する注意が出ていると聞きました。 在タイの方は、既にご存じのことでしょうが、遅ればせながら、驚いています。 注意の内容は、「現在、タイ国では日本、米国等の一部の国籍者に対して、入国目的が観光である場合に限りビザ免除で３０日の滞在を許可しています。タイ国入国管理局では、最近ビザ免除措置を使い出入国を繰り返し実際上長期滞在を行っているケースが増加しているため、その取り締まりの強化を決定した模様です。以前から、陸路国境にて出国同日に入国を試み、タイへの入国を拒否されたとの情報もありますので、観光目的以外でタイへの渡航を予定されている場合は、目的に合ったビザを取得するようご留意ください。」というものです。 ラオスでは、ラオスに居住していてラオス国籍のないの日本人の中に15日ごとに国境を超えてはラオスへ再入国している人がいますので、このような取り締まりがラオスで行われるとしたらちょっと混乱するような気がします。 タイの場合は、それほど問題ないのでしょうか、少々心配になりました。【Bon appétit !】 A tourist visa is a stamp or document needed so you can stay in Thailand for a specific period of time, on the purpose of tourism. バナナの葉の日傘↑（2014年6月1日、リキサ県、東ティモール） 山道を自転車で下っています。 向こうから2人の子どもが道路を登って来ます。 頭の上に大きな葉っぱをかざしています。 日傘です。 東ティモールでは、2014年は６月21日が冬至です。 これから太陽が最も遠くへ移動し、太陽光線が最も弱い季節となります。 それでも相当強烈な直射日光です。 子供でさえ、日陰を探して遊んだり移動したりします。 バナナの葉は大きいので、日除けにはもってこいなのかもしれません。【Bon appétit !】 The summer solstice（夏至）occurs when the tilt（傾き）of a planet's semi-axis（半軸）, in either the northern or the southern hemisphere, is most inclined toward the star (sun) that it orbits.
