People are preparing for New Year’s Day.
After Christmas, you may see Kadomatsu decoration at the entrances of houses and buildings.
Today I saw a pair of Kadomatsu in front of the Tanaka house in Mejiro.

A kadomatsu is a traditional Japanese decoration of the New Year placed in pairs in front of homes. They are placed after Christmas until January 7. Designs for kadomatsu vary depending on region but are typically made of pine, bamboo which represent longevity, prosperity and steadfastness. "The fundamental function is to honor and receive the toshigami (deity), who will then bring a bountiful harvest for farmers and bestow
(授ける)
the ancestors' blessing on everyone."
