I Invest $100 a Month — Here’s How It’s Growing into Millions

Why This Beats Everything Else I’ve Tried
I’ve watched friends lose money day trading, get burned on crypto, stress about rental properties. Meanwhile, my boring strategy requires zero skill, zero time, and zero emotional intelligence.

The S&P 500 has averaged about 10% annually since forever. Some years it’s down 20%, others it’s up 30%. But zoom out far enough, and the line goes up and to the right.

The Mental Shift That Changed Everything
This habit completely rewired how I think about money. That $100 used to be “fun money” — drinks, random Amazon purchases, whatever. Now it represents $8,000+ in future buying power.

I still spend on stuff I enjoy, but I’m way pickier. Do I really need the fancy headphones, or would future millionaire me prefer I invest that money instead?

Usually, future me wins.

Where This Is All Heading
Current goal: bump it to $300 monthly by age 35. If I can swing that and maintain it for 30 years, we’re looking at $6–7 million by retirement.

Not bad for someone whose biggest financial achievement three years ago was having a fully-funded emergency fund.

The crazy part? I’m just getting started. Every raise, every bonus, every “found money” gets split between enjoying today and investing in tomorrow.

Real Talk
Some months are rough. Car repairs happen, vet bills exist, life gets expensive. I’ve had months where I could only swing $75 instead of $100.

That’s fine. Consistency beats perfection every single time.

The hardest part isn’t the money — it’s fighting the urge to constantly check your account. In my first year, I was refreshing that app like it was social media. Bad idea. Now I peek maybe once a month.

Why I’m Sharing This

Because three years ago, I thought building real wealth required some secret knowledge or family money I didn’t have. Turns out, the most powerful wealth-building strategy is also the most boring: put money in index funds and wait.

My $100 monthly habit isn’t just building wealth — it’s building confidence. Knowing I’ve got this growing safety net changes how I think about everything from job security to taking risks.

If you’re reading this thinking “I can’t spare $100,” start with $50. Or $25. The amount matters way less than starting and staying consistent.

The best time to start was ten years ago. The second-best time is right now.
