美味しいワインと出会う旅

CP95　超レアーなヴェルセの96があると言うのでワイン会友人のMさんを誘って、飲みに行って来ました。この店でも最後の一本と言う事で貴重な瓶でした。

状態は素晴らしく、とても美味しかったです。価格は￥11600円でした。このワインとしては安いと思います。

パーカーさんは何故か96のこのワインの2本目の評価低いです。おそらく酸化防止剤無添加ワインですから、保存状態の悪い瓶に当たって、 不愉快な香りがしたのでしょう。

この手のワインは保存・管理がとても重要です。瓶差も大きいと思います。

瓶には長期間じっと熟成していた証拠の細かい澱の後が瓶の肩にこびり付いています。俗に言うシュミーズです。

色は淡く澄んだルビー色、香はラズベリー、獣、ココア、若干の甘酸っぱいビオ臭、硫黄の様な 還元香、素晴らしい香りが漂います。2人で一本ですからじっくり飲んだのですが、ボトルの真ん中になっても注ぐたびに新鮮な香りが出てきます。非常に良いですね。

味わいは熟成感が良く出ています。柔らかく品の良い果実味、丸くエレガントになったタンニン、綺麗な酸、余韻も長く、熟成した厚みのあるピノノワールの様でもあります。何時までの幾らでも飲んでいたくなるワインです。癒されます。 

1996 Noel Verset Cornas

This wine was tasted twice, and I still cannot believe how badly it performed. For much of the seventies and eighties, Verset, along with Clape, produced reference point Cornas (I was an enthusiastic purchaser and drinker of his wines), but he appears to have lost the magic touch as we end the twentieth century. The 1996 Cornas, tasted twice from bottle, revealed an acidic, old, musty oak component that dominated the wine's otherwise impressive fruit. The wine's funky, unclean wood character permeated what would have been an admirable flavor component. It is with considerable regret that I report on this wine given the many fine vintages I have purchased and consumed of Verset's Cornas. Notes such as this are among the most lamentable aspects of my job.

Oct 1997 Robert Parker (81-84) Drink: 1999 - 2009 
The inimitable, squeaky-voiced Noel Verset has fashioned a competent 1996 Cornas that is lighter than usual, with a dark ruby/purple color, some of the vintage's high acidity, and a pungent, peppery, black currant-scented nose intermingled with minerals and earth. The wine reveals good ripeness on the attack, sweet, ripe fruit, and a spicy, moderately tannic finish. It will drink well with 2-4 more years of cellaring, and keep for 10-12.

As a postscript, I just consumed the 1983 and 1985 vintages of Verset's Cornas with great pleasure. The 1983 remains extremely unevolved and young, as does the 1985, but the latter vintage possesses more sweet, up-front fruit, and represents a glorious example of Cornas.
