保谷の駅前図書館でトーマス・クックヨーロッパ鉄道時刻表を借りてきた。将来の海外進出を見据えて、日本の時刻表との違いを知ろうと、ヨーロッパ諸国の鉄道路線図を見ようと借りてきた。
僕が行きたい海外の地は、やはり鉄道の歴史が深いイギリスとドイツだ。そのため、英語に加えて大学ではドイツ語も併せて勉強している。ジョージ・スチーブンソン、ロバート・スチーブンソン親子が製作した蒸気機関車を使って1830年に世界初の実用鉄道を開業させたイギリス。1879年に、ヴェルナー・フォン・ジーメンスがベルリン万博で電気で動く鉄道車両の走行に成功し、1881年同都市に世界初の路面電車が開通したドイツ。どちらも輝かしい鉄道の歴史を持っている。
異国の地にあこがれるのはいつの時代も変わらないと思う（日本の場合は、幕末の開国以降だと思うが）。
I barrowed Thomas Cook Europian Train Timetable to know the difference from Japanese ones and train maps in Europian countries from the library in front of Hoya Station.
The Europian countries which I want to visit are UK and Germany, the 2 countries having long railway history. So I study German at university. In 1830, the first practical railway, Liverpool and Manchester Railway, was opened with the steam locomotives George and Robart Stephenson made. In 1879, Werner von Siemens made the first electric train and the train ran in the Berlin Expo. And the first tram/streetcar was opened in Berlin, 1881. Both UK and Germany have glorious railway history.
We always want to go to the other countries, but in case of Japan, at least, we have wanted to go overseas since the opening of a country to the world in the end of Edo era.
