Due to the track layout improvement construction at Shinagawa Station on November 23rd and 24th, Tokaido Line suspended train operation between Tokyo and Yokohama until it was finished, 10:20 AM, and, only on 24th morning, Yokosuka Line did between Tokyo and Nishi-oi and change train's destination to Osaki or Shinjuku on Shonan-shinjuku Line.
Though it was a temporal treatment, for E217 Series on Yokosuka Line, running on Shonan-shinjuku Line was first time since the abolition of its regular service in 2004.
E217 Series started going-through service to Shonan-shinjuku Line on December 1st, 2001. It travelled only between Zushi and Shinjuku together with 215 Series, as against E231 Series from Oyama and 211 Series from Takasaki in service between Utsunomiya and Zushi or Kagohara and Odawara. On that time, E217 Series belonged to 2 sheds, Kamakura and Makuhari, but Kamakura's one only went through Shinjuku.
However, due to the improvement construction at Shinjuku and Ikebukuro and introducing Green Car to all operations, E217 Series and 215 Series finished the service on Shonan-shinjuku Line to be replaced by E231 Series from Oyama and Kozu.
