When a group of former Meta (Facebook) developers comes together to build a new blockchain project that is backed by some of the biggest crypto VCs, people better start paying attention. In this article, I will show you what Sui is all about and why investors should keep it on their radar.

Sui is a L1 blockchain developed by Mysten Labs in Palo Alto, California. The founders are former employees of Meta’s Novi Research and worked as architects on Diem, Facebook’s discontinued digital currency project. The five of them are:

A look at their LinkedIn profiles reveals a team with a lot of experience in fields like programming and cryptography. There also seems to be enough leadership experience to handle the organizational part.

Mysten Labs’ team is currently working on two projects:

l Sui Move, a modified programming language based on the original Move created in 2018 for the Facebook Libra (Diem) project.

l Sui project, a decentralized proof of stake blockchain with horizontally scalable throughput and storage.

Like any other new blockchain project, Sui also promises us many innovations to make it the best solution for users. In fact, there are some promising ideas behind the usual marketing talk.

l According to the developers, the biggest difference between Sui and other blockchains is that everything that lives on the blockchain is designed as an independent object. Because of that, transactions on Sui can be executed in parallel. Current TPS is said to be about 120.000.

l In addition, Sui can also scale horizontally by adding workers to each authority. This kind of design will greatly improve transaction speed.

l Sui uses delegated proof of stake consensus mechanism.

l Sui can also handle large on-chain storage.
Suiは大きなオン- チェーンのストレージを扱うことができる。

l Gas mechanism: validators set the reference gas fees for each epoch, which is 24 hours. This ensures that the gas fee will not be volatile from one minute to the next. If validators set the fee too high, they will get fewer block rewards. Validators need to evaluate each other, in order to promote good behavior. The goal is that the gas will be low enough for users but also enough to cover the cost of validators.
ガス料金の仕組み：検証者は規準ガス料金をそれぞれの出来事にセットするが、それは２４時間です。これはガス料金が１分から次の分まで変動することがないことを保証する。もし検証者が料気をあまりにも高くしたなら、彼らはより少ないブロック報酬を得ることになる。検証者は良好な振る舞いを促進するために、お互いを評価する必要がある。その目標はガス料金がユーザーのために十分低いが、しかし同じく検証者のコストをカバーするのに十分であろうということである。

l Sui has now a devnet which includes 4 validator nodes operated by Mysten Labs.
