美味しいワインと出会う旅

トルブレック：ディシェンダント　［1999］

私が以前飲んだ02や03とずいぶんイメージが違います。トレブレックはわりと好きな蔵なので、時々飲みますが、このワインはせっかく熟成しているのに、味にまとまりがありません。なんだか人工的にブレンドして作った様な感じのワインです。

キャンディー香が微妙にあったり、香と味のバランスが悪く、コンサルタントが作ったワインと言った感じがします。1万円以上の高級ワインですから期待も大きいのですが、何だか作られた味と言う感じです。

今日飲んだ他のシラーズ＆ヴィオニエのワインではこんな感じを持ちませんでした。他は全て自然な感じのワインでした。

パウエルがワインをリリースしたのが97年、その2年後のワインです。本人自身自分のワインが熟成された状態を知らないし、どう変わるか未知数です。狙いはギガルのラ・トゥルクでしょうが、本家はこんな熟成はしません。

パーカー高得点連発の、パーカー校の超優等生（９７，９８連発です）の馬脚を見た気がしました。

The 1999 Descendant is a blend of 92% Shiraz and 8% Viognier from a five-year old vineyard. There are 220 cases of this cuvee, which spends 18 months in used French barrels prior to bottling. Its dense purple color is followed by blackberry, creme de cassis, and floral aromas, huge body, terrific fat and glycerin, and a seamless, decadently rich finish. It is a tour de force in pleasure.

This wine not only makes for compelling drinking, but it is also a huge amount of fun, and isn't that what it's all about? If I had to give an award to Australia's finest winemaker in 2001, it would be hard not to consider David Powell.
