Pink Diamonds

pink diamondsPink diamonds are actually among the most expensive diamonds available. With a small diamond, 2 carats or less, it is almost impossible to see that a diamond is a ‘Pink’ diamond and it takes an appraiser in a laboratory to establish this.

Of course it is possible to see a diamond if it is pink enough, the hue is deep enough and the diamond is large enough. Then we are getting into the big money with many thousands, if not hundreds of thousands, being paid for such stones. Pink diamonds are extremely rare of course and that adds to the value of the diamond in a big way.

Pink diamonds can look exquisite in the right setting. If you are buying a loose diamond then it is a good idea to chose the setting carefully. Perhaps a pink or yellow gold setting or in a platinum ring. When buying a pink diamond it should be in a setting that reflects the quality and rarity of the stone. The setting should also hold the stone firmly with a claw setting, not glued in as can sometimes happen. The claws should be strong and not too weak and liable to break off.

Also it is vital that one gets a certificate of authenticity from an independent gemological laboratory to ensure that the diamond is what it is claimed to be and the value is established for insurance and possible resale purposes.

The dealer should supply this certificate but if they don’t you can get one yourself or perhaps it might even be wiser to select a different dealer or jeweler.

Pink diamonds are very beautiful and, provided they are looked after well, can give many years of happiness.
