$50 Million Diamond Heist Arrest

Seems the Brussels police have been busy rounding up suspects believed to have been involved in the big diamond heist At Brussels Airport in February this year. ‘Eight robbers in two vans with flashing blue lights broke through a security fence at Antwerp airport recently and stole, according to some reports, 30 million dollars worth of diamonds from a Swiss plane in five minutes and speed off through the same hole in the security fence.’ ( http://priceofdiamonds.org/2013/02/24/30-million-dollars-for-five-minutes-work )

Mustering 300 police, 10 people have been detained with one in France and the others in Switzerland. The suspect being held in France is strongly believed to be one of the gang of eight who carried out the daring raid. “It’s the only person that we can say at this stage that could have participated in the events on the tarmac,” said Jean-Marc Meilleur, the prosecutor’s spokesman. “As for the others, we still need to investigate to find out whether they are intermediaries or if they are people who participated directly.”

According to a recent report by the Diamond Certification Laboratory of Australia on their blog spot, “Police in Geneva said they had questioned eight people after raids there and had subsequently released six of them, leaving two under investigation. Those figures differed slightly from the details provided by Belgian authorities.”

Some of the diamonds are said to have been recovered.
