The Rise of Burning Man and What Follows the Fire
AT A GLANCE
• The first “burn” was witnessed by about 35 people on a California beach in 1986.
• Since then it has grown to 70,000 people on a Nevada dry lake bed.
• The burning of the Man has spiritual implications.
• It is part of a nefarious agenda that targets Western civilization.
“One day in 1986, I called a friend and said, ‘Let’s build a man and burn him on the beach.’”
That wild phone call, according to Burning Man founder Larry Harvey, came out of the darkness of his imagination in the buildup to the summer solstice.
Accompanied by his friend Jerry James, Harvey executed his vision. In a basement in Noe Valley, California, the duo constructed an eight-foot effigy of a man, hauled it to Baker Beach, and set it ablaze to watch it crumble.
