Max Scherzer ’s outing against the Los Angeles Dodgers on Monday was cut short.
The Toronto Blue Jays pitcher was removed from the World Series rematch after two innings and 36 pitches due to right forearm tendinitis.
“There’s nothing major going on,” Scherzer said . “I’ve been dealing with this issue for a couple of weeks, but it never presenting when I’ve been throwing the ball. It’s hurt more when I’m at home than when I’m actually throwing a baseball.”
Scherzer doesn’t believe he’ll need a stint on the injured list.
“I just don’t think this is an IL issue where I need to miss two starts,” he said. “I think I just needed to guard it (Monday).”
Blue Jays manager John Schneider told reporters after the 14-2 loss to the Dodgers that they planned to be cautious with Scherzer going into Monday’s start.
“I’m fairly to fairly confident he’ll make his next start,” Schneider said .
The Blue Jays can ill-afford another injury to their pitching staff with Trey Yesavage , Shane Bieber , Yimi García , José Berríos and Cody Ponce all on the injured list.
Should Scherzer remain on schedule, he’ll pitch Sunday against the Minnesota Twins .
