USS South Dakota Battleship Memorial

As the most decorated vessel in World War II, the USS South Dakota Battleship was in all the major battles at sea during its heyday. Recognizing its importance in American history, the USS South Dakota Battleship Memorial highlights the significance of the ship through memorabilia and artifacts. The memorial is a minimalist, outlined replica of the ship with foot-high walls of concrete, depicting the shape and width, with a small museum at the bridge. Components of the ship are placed accurately around the memorial with a propeller, the ship's bell, original 16-inch gun, and Flagstaff. Over 680 feet (207 meters) long and one of the most prominent landmarks in Sioux Falls, this insightful memorial is a striking commemoration to the legendary battleship that once was.
