Arturo's

If you are looking for some authentic NYC pizza, skip the lines and long waits at Lombardi's and head down Houston a few blocks to Arturo's. Sure you can find artisanal, wood fired pizzas all around the city, but here at Arturo's, the kitchen uses coal ovens which provide a distinct, salty flavor to the crust. Opened in 1957, Arturo's has an old-school, bohemian feel with pictures on every square inch of the walls and cozy lighting. The restaurant also serves classic Italian-American dishes like clams linguini, mussels in wine, antipasti and the bar stocks a nice selection of wine and beer. Another reason why to visit Arturo's is the live jazz performed nightly, something Lombardi's doesn't have.

Zen Vegetarian House

The vegetarian fare that is served at Zen Vegetarian House will delightfully trick even the most devout carnivores. One of the best examples from their menu is the Orange Beef which is made using tofu but will trick your palate in unlimited ways. Other preparations like the Mango Chicken, Sesame Chicken, Chicken Nuggets and the Sweet n Sour Chicken are all created without the use of poultry. Try it to believe it!

One can also order sides like Fried Rosemary Potatoes and wine such as Alois Lageder Chardonnay to complement the dishes.
