The Patriots didn’t clinch the AFC East on Sunday and saw their 10-game win streak come to an end. But Mike Vrabel believes the Week 15 loss to the Bills can be used as a learning experience .
“We gotta pick the pieces back up, and we’re 11-3, and we’re gonna work our asses off to be 12-3,” coach Mike Vrabel said on WEEI about his message to the team . “And I love coaching these guys, and it’s not perfect, and none of us are, and this happens in the National Football League.
“It’s been 83 days since we lost, 83 days, and it was a good run, and we have to start another one,” he continued . “We got to get back to work here and practice.”
Drake Maye had a strong first half that included two rushing touchdowns and the Patriots took a 21-point lead into the half. But they took their foot off the gas in the second half and allowed Josh Allen and the Bills to erase the deficit and leave Gillette Stadium with a win.
Buffalo’s comeback also kept its AFC East hopes alive.
“I think that it can be an opportunity that we have to learn from,” Vrabel said . “I’ve tried to stay consistent in my messaging and what we’ll do. And we’ll take a look at all the good stuff, and we’ll have to fix the stuff that gets us beat, and we’ll have to talk to these guys about making great in-game decisions and all the details and the techniques and the things that cost us, and try to get back and get healthy and get back on the road and win a game.”
The Patriots are still atop the AFC East standings, but the path to their first division title since 2019 got a bit tougher. New England can clinch in Week 17 the earliest .
