Chicago Bears just got a big injury update for starting safety, Cobie Bryant, who went down during Monday's practice with a knee injury and had to be carted off the field.
ESPN's Adam Schefter said Cobie Bryant is expected to be sidelined eight to ten weeks due to a hyperextended knee, bone bruise, and small fracture that he suffered during t- today's practice.
No injury, however, is to be expected or to be needed.
That is great news for Cobie Bryant.
Eight to ten weeks is a slight concern.
He's gonna be out probably until, I would say, October at that rate.
Miss a couple weeks.
Probably be put on the IR to start the season and miss the first four games of the season.
But this is still big news for the Bears because it's not season-ending for Cobie Bryant.
When we go back to what happened at practice, it seemed like it would be bad news.
Cobie Bryant went down grabbing his left knee during a one-on-one rep. Clearly emotional, got into the cart on his own power.
But the fact he showed so much emotion made it really, really tough for the Bears with the situation that maybe he was gonna be out with a season-ending injury, maybe ACL.
Maybe something like that with a knee injury that would, could be season ending, a tear, a ligament, something like that.
But the fact that he's not gonna be missing the entire season is good news for the Bears.
He is a guy that they could not lose long term because the safety depth is not the best in Chicago.
Kam Lewis right here, number 21, took over for Cobie Bryant during team drills, but he's also a guy that was rotating in at the nickel for Kyler Gordon.
And so overall, the entire safety situation, Elijah Hicks is still on the PUP list dealing with a shin injury, and after that, it's guys that haven't really had any snaps in the National Football League before.
So safety depth will be a major concern for the Bears for the first couple weeks.
But the big thing with Cobie Bryant, not season-ending.
He will be back and will be playing for the Bears in 2026 after eight to 10 weeks with this injury.
