Chicago Cubs Path to NL Central Title Is Quickly Disappearing
The Cubs are running out of time in the NL Central race and now face a steep uphill climb to catch the Brewers with 33 games remaining.

The Chicago Cubs are starting to run out of time when it comes to that NL Central race.
After losing a series to the St. Louis Cardinals, after dropping the first game against the Seattle Mariners on Friday night, the Cubs are falling out of it.
They're six and a half games back of the Milwaukee Brewers now with just thirty-three left to play in the season, and it means that the Cubs basically have to play perfect baseball.
Even if Milwaukee were to go fifteen and seventeen the rest of the way, the Cubs would need to go twenty-two and eleven just to tie Milwaukee.
And right now, a tie, the Brewers have the tiebreaker.
So really, I wanna talk about the Cubs and Brewers going head-to-head, because to me, there is a non-negotiable that the Cubs have to win at least five, probably six of the seven head-to-head matchups they have with the Brewers remaining.
Yes, that is a tall order, but yes, that's what it's going to take.
If the Cubs go four and three against the Brewers the rest of the way, they only gain one game in the standings.
And by the way, the Brewers then secure the season series tiebreaker, which is an additional game in the standings that the Cubs would need to make up.
So they don't need to beat them the rest of the way.
They need to dominate them the rest of the way.
That much is a non-negotiable.
This is ultimately what happens when you don't take care of business against inferior opponents.
The Cubs lost a game against a Mariners team on Friday.
They got beat by the St. Louis Cardinals, and frankly, they're lucky to have had two comeback wins in a row in walk-off fashion against the White Sox earlier this week.
Otherwise, the division would have already been gift-wrapped to Milwaukee.
But the objective the rest of the way is clear.
It couldn't be more clear.
You cannot lose any more ground playing teams worse than you.
You need to head into that series with Milwaukee coming up five or six games back in the division to have a shot, and then you need to absolutely dominate the Brewers in the head-to-head.
It is the only viable path remaining, but it does now look like the Cubs have backed themselves into a corner that they might not be able to fight out of
