The organization confirmed earlier that head coach Kyle Shanahan sustained multiple injuries in a severe mid-July traffic incident near his Northern California home.

The incident occurred on July fourteenth when Shanahan's vehicle collided with another SUV.

Officers confirmed that neither drugs nor alcohol played a role in the crash and that no citations were issued.

While his injuries were officially categorized as non-threatening, the physical toll on a forty-six-year-old head coach was considerable.

Reports indicate that Shanahan suffered three fractured ribs, a broken hand, a fractured nose, a severe concussion, and required over forty facial stitches.

As veteran players reported to Santa Clara, the 49ers released an official statement detailing Shanahan's status for the opening weeks of camp, saying, "San Francisco 49ers head coach Kyle Shanahan was involved in a car accident last week where he suffered non-life-threatening injuries.

Coach Shanahan will participate in team activities on a limited basis at the start of training camp while he recovers.

Coach Shanahan and the 49ers organization would like to sincerely thank all first responders involved for their effort and care."

Assistant head coach Chris Foerster, along with team coordinators, will handle head coaching responsibilities during this period.

General Manager John Lynch clarified during his Saturday press conference that while Shanahan remains in the SAP Performance facility, he'll take a step back from direct public-facing and high exertion duties until he passes the team's medical concussion protocols.

Assistant head coach and offensive line archinat-- architect Chris Foerster will manage daily administrative head coaching duties alongside second-year offensive coordinator Clay Kubiak and newly appointed defensive coordinator Raheem Morris.

Shanahan informed his coaching staff of the incident earlier in the week, with players learning the full details as they arrived at the facilities for check-ins.

Lynch shared that Warner reached out to Shanahan shortly after learning of the crash with a simple reassuring text that said, "We got this coach.

Trust us."

With Shanahan entering his tenth season as head coach, the system in Santa Clara is a well-oiled machine.

While the head coach focuses on his physical recovery, the veteran presence he built is designed to keep the engine running smoothly.
