The Cubs Have A Serious Offensive Problem
A collapsed offense and silent superstars have sparked a freefall in the standings. With expensive hitters struggling and runners stranded, Chicago's lack of identity threatens their entire season.

What is up, Cubs fans?
And welcome back to Cubs Roundtable.
I'm Joey Polizzi talking about all things Cubs.
And the Cubs have a serious problem on their hands.
This is a team that's playing poor baseball right now.
They are just 5-18 in their last 23 games, and they have not won a series since one month ago when they began a four-game set against the Reds where they eventually swept them.
But they have not won a series in a quite long time.
And this stretch has resulted in them dropping from first in the National League Central all the way down to fourth, where they currently sit six and a half games behind the Milwaukee Brewers for first place.
And the problem with the Cubs right now is they can't hit, and this is a serious problem that they have right now because they don't have someone who can transcend this offense, someone who can take over, simply take over, and carry this offense on their back.
They don't have that right now.
You look at the players, the hitters the Cubs have right now, and Michael Busch, like, he's having a better hitting season than he did to start the season, but still, he's batting only .244 with six home runs.
Nico Hoerner somehow forgot to hit.
He's got another .260.
Dansby Swanson needs a mental reset and has looked awful at the plate this season.
Ian Happ and Seiya Suzuki can't hit with the runners in scoring position.
And Moiss Ballesteros has fallen off considerably since his hot start to begin the season.
And not even to mention their big offseason signing of Alex Bregman.
He was a guy that they signed five years, $175 million to come in and boost this Cubs offense, and he has not done that.
Only five home runs in his first 61 games.
So the Cubs have a problem on their hands.
They, they can't hit with runners in scoring position.
The star players are not stepping up.
You know, the Cubs are paying Bregman and Swanson over $60 million for their services this year, and they both have not provided great numbers offensively to start the season.
So runners, hitters can't hit.
Star players aren't providing much.
They can't hit with runners in scoring position, and no one wants to step up and be that hero for this Cubs offense.
