Edward Cabrera's Injury Could Open Up Rotation Spot For This Cubs Pitcher
With Edward Cabrera leaving Wednesday's start early, this pitcher emerges as the prime candidate to rejoin the North Siders' rotation after dominant recent performances in Triple-A.

What is up Cubs fans and welcome back to Cubs Roundtable.
I'm Joey Polizzi talking about all things Cubs and there's a lot of uncertainty right now regarding Edward Cabrera's recent injury.
As we all know, Wednesday Edward Cabrera left his start early after throwing a 92 mile per hour fastball high and above the zone.
Good news there is it was only a right finger blister.
Nothing with his arm, nothing with his shoulder.
But blister injuries can require IL stints sometimes.
We've seen it with Reds starter Nick, Nico Odolo a few times over the years.
Max Fried also was, you know, probably gonna go on the IL last year if it wasn't for his blister coming right before the All-Star break.
So Cabrera could wind up landing on the injured list.
While the Cubs haven't made any decision yet about whether he will go on the injured list or not, that decision will likely come in a few days.
If he does wind up going on the IL, the Cubs will have to replace him in the rotation.
Javier Assad is always gonna be an option.
He was optioned a few days ago down to triple A.
But someone like Jordan Wicks could be a good option for the Cubs to replace Cabrera.
For one, Wicks has pitched well recently down in triple A.
He threw six innings of one run ball two starts ago with a season high six strikeouts, and recently here on Thursday for the triple A Cubs threw five scoreless innings with one walk allowed and two strikeouts.
These recent performances should give the Cubs some confidence that Wicks might have the stuff now to prove his stuff in the major leagues once again.
Wicks also lines up perfectly with Cabrera's spot in the rotation.
With Wicks pitching on Thursday, his next start that he could possibly pitch in is Tuesday.
Cabrera's next start is scheduled for Tuesday.
So it would be an easy transition if Cabrera does go on the IL.
Call up Wicks, go take his spot and see how he looks for some turns with the rotation before Cabrera is fully healthy.
