We came into this week with George Lombard, defensive wizard.
He's on pace for 100 defensive WAR.
What does that mean?
And then this week, things came back at him.
Tough week with the glove, and the transfers, and the bobbles, for George.
It's very odd.
He has the arm to play shortstop, and he has the footwork and the range on his feet to play shortstop.
And since Didi, we haven't seen a player have both of those things.
He's making errors on the transfer and the receiving of the ball, like, just a little cavalier with his glove.
Just, like, we kind of talked about it in his first week.
We're like, you know how he's just so relaxed fielding the ball?
It's like, okay, maybe tighten it up a little.
Maybe see that ball into the web a little more.
He didn't make a ton of errors in the minors, so I was trying to think if this is new.
I wanted to kind of ask a beat writer down there or something, like, did, like, did you see a lot of bobbles that he would recover on or not?
'Cause in this series, you have the three errors.
You also have the bobble that he converted it, so it wasn't an error.
You have the foul ball that he didn't track down.
So you really have five misplays in one series.
It's a, it's a, a lot, and it's, like, somewhat alarming.
I'd love to hear the follow-up, like, if he's, like, at the field taking early work next week.
Or if we see him maybe just not go to that backhand so cavalierly.
Like, more see that ball into the glove with two hands.
You can't fix a bad arm, although Simeon, Dansby Swanson are two shortstops that had a lot of throwing errors and did fix that.
So if it's like an inaccurate arm, this feels like a f- like a, a fixable problem.
It's, like, his feet are there.
It's feels more just not a skill set issue.
