On The Mets Pod, Joe DeMayo talks to Mets SVP of Player Development Andy Green during Mets spring training in Port St. Lucie, and they discuss what makes Carson Benge a special prospect, and how the organization will measure his big league readiness this spring.

Carson Benge, obviously top hitting prospect in the system.
We'll talk about, the potential opening day here, but for his first full pro season, what's something that you didn't know about him that you learned a- as him as a player?
I, I, I think Carson has a genius in how simple he can keep the game of baseball.
we get more and more data, we get more and more numbers as the years go by.
we have different ways to analyze guys.
At the end of the day, it's swinging strikes, hit strikes hard, catch the ball in the outfield, make the throw to the right base, make good read on the base paths.
He does those things extraordinarily well without making the game too complex, a- and in that sense, he's kind of like an old school throwback baseball player.
He's just out there playing the game, and he's got a lot of natural God-given ability.
When you assess big league readiness, I know there's some adages of a certain amount of at bats or plate appearances, or if it's a pitcher, innings pitched at the Triple-A level.
Carson, as David Stearns and Carlos Mendoza, everyone has said, has a chance to break camp with the team this year.
But he really only got into a couple dozen games at the Triple-A level.
How do you evaluate someone with maybe that smaller sample size at the Triple-A level for their big league readiness?
Yeah, I, I think you just watch how they go about their job here in spring training.
Carson's at bats at the Triple-A level, if you look at the slash line, it's not gonna be overpowering to you.
But what he did under those numbers was just as good as what he was doing in High A and Double-A throughout the course of the year.
So, he had a lot of really positives, in the Triple-A clubhouse, on the Triple-A field, and, we're gonna see if he builds on those in spring.
You know, ball's in his court, and, obviously, other players impact that as well.
But, there'll definitely be a decision point at some point in time this spring.
