Green Bay Packers: It’s Time to Say Goodbye to Quay Walker
Quay Walker's promising growth coincides with his departure. With a new linebacker acquired, the Green Bay Packers pivot away from their former first-round pick.

The Green Bay Packers are being very aggressive as they look to retool this roster this off season, and that started with a trade from Brian Gutekunst as the Green Bay Packers acquired former All-Pro linebacker, Zaire Franklin, from the Indianapolis Colts for defensive tackle, Colby Wooden.
Franklin is coming off a year where he struggled in Indianapolis.
he still put up some solid, tackle numbers, but overall, he was not playing very well in coverage, and he was, close to leading the league in missed tackles.
But he was an All-Pro just in 2024, and he has the capability, perhaps in a new scheme under Jonathan Gannon, the Packers defensive coordinator, to be an impactful player once again.
And Green Bay is making this move ahead of free agency as they were unable to re-sign their 2022 first-round pick, Quay Walker, who had previously been playing, alongside Edgin Cooper at inside linebacker for the Packers.
So Franklin now fills that role next to Cooper, and with Cooper being, a young star who has continued to improve his game each season, Franklin's veteran leadership and his experience could fit very well for Gannon's defense as the Packers look to contend for a Super Bowl in 2026.
