So let's get to what's hot, presented by Service Champions, and that's Logan Webb's day.
seven innings pitched, gave up seven hits, one earned run, two walk, six K's.
Really, the one blemish was that Kyle Schwarber home run in the first.
It was a mistake over the plate, but otherwise Webby was great.
He was great.
And you said that was the one blemish.
He had, a, a little, a little time settling in, but after the first inning he was fantastic.
And then we'll get to the fourth inning where he pitched out of his other jam- Yeah and really showed why he's an ace and what he can do.
And then after that, he just cruised.
Gave, manager Tony Gonsolin exactly what he needed with a double header.
here's the fourth inning, a big play.
I don't know if we'll get into that in more detail, but he got the ground ball with second and third and nobody out, and he pitched out of it.
Chapman making that play there.
So it was all set up, and then he cruised from there.
went to Miller, got the lefty, Schwarber and Harper, and then to Walker.
It was all set up for a win.
Mm-hmm.
We were talking off the air about Webb's rocky start to the year.
Of course, starting out against the Yankees, clearly that was kind of a tough hill to overcome.
but he's gotten better with every start.
Like, what do you make of what he's Whatever it is that he's been working through to get to what we saw today, which again, was more vintage Webb.
Because you know that the stuff is there, but the numbers have not been there so far this season.
Well, I think for all pitchers, Kylie, and it boils down to location.
Um- Mm-hmm you know, the hitters that you're facing.
And when you make mistakes to good hitters, they hit it.
I thought that, he The mistake he made to Schwarber today, well, with Schwarber we know that's a home run.
But, uh- That's it that's what it boils down to.
You know, I mean, he's not overpowering, so- Mm-hmm he, he's got great movement on a changeup, sinker, cutter.
He's added a four-seamer he throws at the top of the zone.
So Logan Webb is a pitcher.
I mean, he use, has to use the whole plate, up, down, and, his bread and butter obviously is the sinker and his changeup.
But you still have to make pitches, 'cause good hitters will hit you.
And, he showed why he's an ace today is that fourth inning.
We said second and third, nobody out, and he pitches out of that jam making pitches.
Mm-hmm.
All our analysts have said, too, that now that opposing batters have, you know, a pretty good scout on Webb, they've been coming in with really good game plans, whether it be attacking certain pitches, sitting on certain pitches.
So they also deserve some credit for the way they've been able to find whatever it is that's the right combination against Webb.
I agree with that.
Look, even Sanchez.
Mm-hmm.
The Giants, he's really good, but you know what, you know what he throws.
You face him multiple times.
The league gets to know you a little bit more, and Webb faces the same thing.
Yep.
especially with teams in his division.
I've seen a lot of left-handed hitters sit on his changeup.
So Logan, and I've talked to him about it several times, he has to play the cat and mouse game.
You know, his- Yep changeup is one of his go-to pitches, but if he finds- Right that they're sitting on it, he has to do something different.
Yep.
And that's what he's able to do.
He studies.
He knows what the hitters are trying to do, and he has to combat what, what their plan is.
