A supplemental retirement savings plan (also called a defined contribution plan) allows you to set aside pre-tax dollars through payroll deductions to save for retirement. You choose a percentage of your salary to be invested in mutual funds you select inside the retirement plan. The amount you have at retirement depends on how much you, as the employee, save in the plan, how long you keep those funds invested, and how well your investments perform inside the plan. FCPS offers two supplemental retirement savings plans. A 403(b) for all FCPS employees. A 457(b) for full-time and part-time salaried employees of FCPS. If you are eligible for the 457(b) program, you may participate in both plans.
FCPS understands that life events occur and that you will need support in the form of benefits. Changes to benefits are time-sensitive, and the appropriate paperwork must be completed within the specified timeframe of the life event. Review the information about different life events for instructions on how to update your benefits. If you wish to make changes to your benefits but have not experienced a qualifying event, you may request the changes during the annual open enrollment period (typically held in the fall), with an effective date of January 1.
Submit questions or concerns, as well as upload forms and other documents through the FCPS StaffConnect portal. Human Resources representatives are also available for assistance Monday – Friday (8 a.m. - 4:30 p.m.) by calling 571-423-3000 or 1-800-831-4331.
