Fourth Grade

Mathematics: This year in math, your student will develop fluency with multi-digit multiplication and division, and continue their work with place value up to one million. A focus will be on their understanding of fractions, including addition and subtraction with fractions. Students will also be introduced to decimals, learn to convert units of measurement, and explore geometry through classifying shapes, measuring angles, and investigating symmetry.
Language Arts: This year, your student will advance their reading by analyzing complex texts and citing evidence to support their ideas. They will refine their writing skills using a formal process to create detailed narratives, reports, and opinion pieces.
Science: Your students will explore our local environment, Virginia, oceans, and even our solar system, finding out how living things work together.
Social Studies: We'll travel through Virginia's past, from being a good citizen to learning about Native Americans, Jamestown, the American Revolution, and even the Civil War, all the way to today.
