- Mathematics: Your student will learn to achieve mastery of multiplication and division facts up to 100, which is the necessary foundation for all future math concepts. They will also be introduced to fractional reasoning, focusing on unit fractions, and will develop skills in geometry by calculating the area and perimeter of shapes .
- Language Arts: The curriculum is focused on developing sophisticated reading comprehension and analytical skills. Students will learn to find the main idea, analyze how parts of a text are related, and combine information from multiple sources. Writing instruction requires students to use a formal process to create longer, more detailed compositions, including informative, opinion, and narrative essays, all while accurately using grade-level grammar.
- Science: Instruction emphasizes scientific investigation, teaching students how to develop and test ideas, collect reliable data, and understand the difference between a simple observation and an informed guess. Key topics include Earth's cycles and patterns (like the seasons, water cycle, and moon phases), the complex relationships in ecosystems (food chains and adaptations), and an introduction to forces and motion (including simple machines).
- Social Studies: The curriculum focuses on Ancient World Cultures. Your child will explore the history, geography, economy, and key contributions of five influential ancient civilizations: Egypt, China, Greece, Rome, and the West African Empire of Mali. This unit will help students understand how past societies developed and influenced our modern world.
