To the left are obscure, low, dumpy
shops whence issue puffs of air as cold
as if coming from a cellar． Here are
dealers in toys, cardboard boxes, second-
hand books． The articles displayed in
their windows are covered with dust, and
owing to the prevailing darkness, can
only be perceived indistinctly．

アーケードの左側は気にとめることのない
活気のない湿っぽい店が並んでいる．地下室
から来るような冷たい風がどこからともなく
吹き付ける．ここにあるのは、おもちゃ屋、
段ボール箱屋、古本屋などの店だ．陳列ケー
スの中の商品はほこりまみれで、どこまでも
暗いこの中では、ほこりすら曖昧にしかわか
らない．
