Japanese pygmy woodpecker belongs to the same family as woodpeckers.
Woodpeckers have strong bills for drilling and drumming on trees and long sticky tongues for extracting food.
Though mail of Japanese pygmy woodpeckers have one red line on their head, we can not see it commonly because the red line is covered by the feather.
I would like to show you some pictures. We see the red line in three pictures, remaining one is that we can not see the line.

↑ 赤い模様が少し見える。/ Ditto.
↑ 赤い模様は見えない。/ We can not see the read line.
