Mary Joe Heath : Here is Piotr Beczala, in his dressing room. You have had an amazing week, havn't you?
Piotr Beczala:Oh yes, but not the end. I have 2 performances more.
M: 3 performances as Lensky, Lucia was last Saturday broadcast Live in HD, and the couples of nights ago, audiences going for your singing Duke in Rigoletto.
PB: Yeah.
M: How's have all been for you?
PB: It's amazing, the Duke was in the plan but a whole week start with Lucia in high D, it was really, ah, it was something special you know.
M: You said you've got lots of responses you've got on e-mail.
M: So lots of people went to see you in the theatres.
PB: Yes, yes.
M: So lots of friends back in Poland maybe never had chance to see you, upon a big screen before?
PB: Yes, it's true. because I'm not singing in Poland so many (years) just 2 or 3 performances last year or 2 years ago. so wonderful to be a part of performances in Metropolitan Opera. it's for the people never be in America, for example, it's something really special.
M: Let's talk about a little bit Lensky . it's a great role, isn't it?
PB: Yeah.
M: you like very much his personality, he is so different from Onegin, isn't it.
PB: Yes, it's a totally different man. It's my 9th production of Lensky
M: You sang almost many other?
PB: my first role, all these years I very very different performances in different productions. It is something unusual in this guy, because he is very soft and gentle at the beginning of opera and switches in 2, 3 minutes to really foolish man. It's something very special to show the changing of Lensky.
M:Right. Now pretty soon you are going to singing a big aria, Kuda Kuda and you have the wonderful scene. Tell us a little bit about that.
livethis aria. because singing is very complicated, it's not high, it's not deep, it's not nothing to deal.
M: not coloratula or so-
PB: No. really to sing in this aria is to be in this moment Lensky 100% and this connection is public. in this special particular moment it's very very important.
M:Right. we were talking few minutes ago with Thomas (Hampson) he said he thinks his favourite scene in opera.
PB: Because not just my aria, after this we have wonderful duet it's just continued of this wonderful aria and it's just amazing I enjoy every every evening.
PB:Yes(smiling)
M:Rodolfo and Anna Netrepko as Mimi. How about that? Two of you ever sang before Lucia last Saturday?
PB: Yes, actually before "the dream couple" I sang Rigoletto in Covent Garden 2 or 3 years ago, and it was whole production eight or nine, I don't know, we met in Berlin in La Traviata, now she will be also with me in Zurich, she's making debut in Zurich(Opera) in La Traviata. We know each other very well. I enjoy every moment with her on the stage. Because she is amazing, you know, and especially in this part of repertoir, like La Boheme, I love this opera.
M: So it's something we are all looking forward next season you and Anna Netrepko doing La Boheme together. Piotr thank you. you had great show and you had rest of after this season. (End of the interview)
