　中３英語のテキストのある問題の模範解答について

R先生と出た話題。

　We had dinner. と We had a dinner.

　dinner に 冠詞が付くか付かないか 、ですね。

　結論から言えば、両方とも英文としてはあり得ます。

ただし、ニュアンスが異なります。

　We had dinner . の方は、 夕食 を「食べた」という事実に

重点が置かれます。

　We had a dinner . の方は「私たちは 晩餐会 を催した」と

和訳することからもわかるとおり、「食事会」の意味合いが強い。

a dinner=a dinner party と考えるとわかりやすい。

party は可算名詞ですものね。

　「私は昨晩彼と食事した」なんて和文を英訳するときは

やっかいですね。

　文脈によって、a を付けるか付けないか、考えるべきです。

　生徒からこういう質問も多いので、、先生方も準備をしっかり

やらなければなりません。R先生も細かなところまで気遣ってくれてます。
