One of the easiest ways for a beauty brand to capture my immediate attention is by being intentional. From the selection of raw ingredients that shape its formulas, to the overall efficacy of said formulas, and even down to packaging design, the tiny details matter—it’s part of how I instantly knew I would fall head over heels for Nonfiction as soon as it came across my desk.
I’m no stranger to K-beauty skincare brands , but this K-beauty fragrance and lifestyle brand is new to me, though it launched back in 2019. Based in Seoul, Korea, the brand prioritizes plant-derived ingredients in its creations and maintains a global presence through stockists and brick-and-mortar stores across Asia, Europe, Australia, and North America. In fact, Nonfiction just opened its first store in the United States this week, its 11th overall, located on Orchard Street in New York City’s Lower East Side.
Nonfiction’s streamlined ethos in both formulation and design is proof that less really can be more. Compared to other K-Beauty companies known for bold or clinical aesthetics, the brand takes a more minimal approach to its packaging with speckled accents and monochrome colorways. Unisex best-sellers like Gentle Night , and one of my personal favorites, Gaiac Flower eau de parfum , are meant to do more than look great on your vanity (although they do), but also, quite literally, help tell your story through scent.
Bazaar ’s beauty team tested dozens of the brand’s products, and our other favorites include the Forget Me Not Hand Wash , Santal Cream eau de parfum , and the Bois d’Ylang eau de parfum . Each of Nonfiction’s 22 olfactory blends—housed under citrus, floral , woody , green, and musk scent categories—is developed with internationally renowned perfumers, and doesn’t just stop at perfume. Its signature fragrances also extend into home and body care, thanks to an artisanal offering of hand washes and creams, candles, scented hair serums, and more, making it simple to live your life in them.

Nonfiction’s scents in any form are impactful without being obtrusive, with a long-lasting sillage that is pleasant from afar and even better up close. They are also very easy to layer, adding to their overall wearability and timelessness, no matter the season. Now that Nonfiction has expanded to the States and I’ve been inducted into its unofficial fan club, I anticipate I’ll be a frequent visitor at the New York location to keep up with the brand’s newest releases—and likely to re-up on bottles of The Beige and Gaiac Flower eau de parfums.
