Some might think fall is synonymous with sweater weather, but if you ask me, the change of seasons is an excellent time to bust out your finest scented candles. You have to admit there's something inexplicably cozy about lighting one on a brisk fall evening and cocooning yourself in a plush throw blanket. The only question that remains, of course, is where to buy your candle .

There are a lot of candle brands to choose from, but Trader Joe's is secretly the best spot to buy budget-friendly ones. Yup, that's right: The same place that sells your favorite butternut squash macaroni and cheese and oven-ready bacon-wrapped scallops also sells candles. While the grocery store does have an entire section packed with skincare products, cleaning supplies, and candles, it can very easily go overlooked as you hightail it over to the Two-Buck Chucks.

Don't worry, I'm right there with you: I might be a self-proclaimed candle connoisseur, but I didn't even know Trader Joe's sold them until I saw a Tomato Leaf Candle in a friend's bathroom over the summer. Then another TJ's candle at another friend's house a week later. So, now that scented candle season is in full swing, I wanted to pick up a few to see what the hype was about. I ended up finding the Fall Scented Candle Trio , and let's just say it was love at first sniff.

The set was packed with three votive candles—Vanilla Woods, Falling Leaves, and Spiced Pear—which I proceeded to light immediately. What struck me most about this set was how unique each scent seemed because, let's face it: When it comes to fall candles, pumpkin-spiced this and apple cider that can start to feel...well, basic . Each one has an unmistakably autumnal aroma, but feels a little more nuanced than a lot of the other budget-friendly candles out there.

Falling Leaves evokes the lushness of an apple orchard—without venturing into the sugary apple cider donuts—while Spiced Pear smells bright and a little tropical. (Perfect for those days when you're missing summer.) You might want to save Vanilla Woods for last as the subtle sweetness and forestry notes could work nicely around the holidays.

The fragrance might've initially drawn me in, but the quality is shockingly good for this trio's $9.99 price tag. Each candle uses soy wax and a lead-free cotton wick, both of which promote a clean burn and keep soot to a minimum. The votives are about 2.3 ounces, and because the candles are very small, you likely won't smell them from across the room. However, if you place one on your desk or coffee table, you'll get a delightful aroma that's not in-your-face. Each candle burns for about 10 hours, so it's bound to give your home office or next movie marathon a multi-sensory edge.

Trader Joe's budget-friendly candles might smell amazing, but they come with a catch: Like most of the grocery store's goods, Trader Joe's candles are seasonal, so its olfactory offerings are always changing. You might be able to buy Falling Leaves or Vanilla Woods now, but wintry aromas like Cedar Balsam may only be available in a few weeks time. And come summer? Beach Days will give your home a whiff of coastal living.

In other words, if you find a scent you like, stock up on 'em before it's too late. That way, you can enjoy the scented candle season year-round.
