Picture a 2000s party girl. She is wearing a glitzy, skin-tight dress and heels. She isn’t on her phone (though she might take a snap or two on a digital camera). Maybe she’s smoking a cigarette inside. But one thing is for sure: She’s taking a “more is more” approach to makeup, and probably has a dramatic smoky eye, frosted nude lips , and thin eyebrows. Today, at Gucci’s fall 2026 show , designer Demna created a new version of 2026 party-girl makeup, with a late ’90s to early 2000s influence.

Iconic early aughts It girl herself, Kate Moss , closed the show with skin-tone glossy lips, carved-out cheekbones, barely-there brows, and a bold, maximalist smoky eye that featured lots of black eyeliner. While nodding to the party girls of the past, Demna also looked to those of the future: model and Charli XCX muse Gabbriette walked the runway in a makeup look similar to Moss’s: frosted neutral lipstick with brown-toned liner, a dramatically contoured face, and an inky eye look.

But the best part of party-girl makeup is that it’s up for interpretation—Gucci had many different versions. Some had lacquer-like bold lips, while others sported dark lip liner framed around icy lipstick (like Emily Ratajkowski ). And the hair also ranged from slicked styles to bouncy, ’90s supermodel waves, paired with long, almond-shaped, flesh-toned nails.

If there’s anything to learn from this season’s Gucci show, it’s time to throw away minimalism, “quiet luxury,” and the clean girl aesthetic in favor of something bolder, messier, and more fun. Swipe on a frosty pink lipstick or a skin-tone gloss, rim your eyes with a thick layer of black eyeliner, pick your smoky eye skills off the bathroom floor, and smoke out shades of gray up to your brow bone. If you’re scared of over-plucking your eyebrows, opt for a brow gel or brow pencil shade that’s lighter than your natural hair color. Skip blush and pack on the contour for a chiseled look. For the final step, leave your phone at home and toss a digital camera into your bag.
