As summer rolls around, so does the return of pastel manicures. Butter yellow continues to dominate, while rosy pinks are a perennial favorite. But if you're coveting a fresh new shade that feels more unexpected, let us direct you to "cloud purple."

This dusty, muted, milky lavender hue is having a major moment this summer. "It sits in that sweet spot between a nude and a color—you get that soft, transparent finish that feels fresh and clean for summer, but with just enough of a lilac tint to make it feel intentional," shares manicurist Faye Louise Dennis. According to her, this color tends to work with all skin tones, and it complements all outfits, making it a go-to hue for many of her clients.

"There's also something really elegant about it; it has that quiet luxury feel without trying too hard," adds Dennis, recommending BioSculpture's Fluttering Lavender, a cool, icy tone for a barely-there effect, and Lilac Lullaby . "The latter brings warmth through mauve undertones, which looks beautiful on deeper skin tones. Or, if you want it to be even more subtle, I recommend layering Transparent Beauty under Fluttering Lavender to give to that wonderful milky, lilac hue."

For at-home gels, try Manucurist Lisa Lilas or Mylee's Quite Delightful. Regular nail polishes such as Essie Lilacism and Nails Inc With Sugar On Top will do the trick, too.

Endlessly versatile, the cloud purple trend also makes for a great base for French tips , and, when layered with chrome powder, creates a dreamy, glimmering effect that subtly catches the light. It's also neutral enough to serve as a canvas for intricate nail art.
