As I’ve gotten older, I’ve become more conscious of my under-eye area. It’s notoriously one of the first areas of the face to show signs of fatigue and aging, so now that I am officially 30, I’ve been taking extra great care of that region with all the creams, masks, and devices.
The puffy, dark circles around my eyes, in particular, have been an area of concern I’ve always been insecure about. No matter how many hours of sleep I get each night, how much water I drink, or how much I limit salt in my diet or my late-night doom scrolling, I always wake up with fluid retention under my eyes. I am not a morning person as is, so imagine how it feels like waking up with a swollen face. It’s super uncomfortable, so I am always doing what I can to mitigate the puffy appearance and sensation.
While I do swear by my chilled under-eye patches, nothing helps treat and drain that area quite like a depuffing device. I previously waxed poetic about Therabody’s Depuffing Wand when it launched in 2024, as it really was at the time a first-of-its-kind cooling beauty tool designed for under-eyes. But now, Dermaflash—the brand behind the cult-loved dermaplaning device—has introduced it’s own version of a digital depuffer, and I am really, really impressed.
The Dermaflash Cool , as it’s called, is powered by high-level sonic vibration designed to massage, boost microcirculation, and support lymphatic drainage. Its rounded tip is ergonomically designed to treat hard-to-reach facial contours and made of copper, which is known for its natural cooling properties and to help reduce inflammation, support collagen production, and improve the skin barrier function
The best part of all? Unlike ice rollers or cryo globes, it doesn’t require freezing—nor will you have to deal with defrosting droplets running down your face. It gets ice cold seconds after turning on, and feels so refreshing against the skin. You can use it solo, but I highly recommend applying the Dermaflash Cocooning Serum the device comes with first. The formula has exceptional slip to it, so that when you treat the face, the tool glides seamlessly under the eyes and around the brow bone. Honestly, it’s just what the doctor ordered first thing in the morning. Because I am in a rush the moment I wake up, even just a minute on each side of the face perks up my eyes before I apply my concealer.
So how does the Dermaflash Cool compare to the Therabody Depuffing Wand? The two are very similar, and I love them each for different reasons. Therabody offers three cooling settings, as well as a three heating settings for better product absorption, is quieter than the Dermaflash, and ever so slightly lighter. The Dermaflash Cool has only two cooling settings, which get slightly colder than the Therabody, and has its 360-degree ergonomic copper domed head going for it. There’s also a $5 difference between the two, and both brands have a generous trial period and are TSA-friendly. You can’t go wrong either way, because choosing the right will really just come down to preferences.
But if you ask me, if under-eye puffiness and dark circles are your sole concerns, the Dermaflash Cool is the perfect pick-me-up. Best $175 you’ll spend this spring, I promise.
