What better way to celebrate spooky season than with a secret-concealing casket-shaped automatic folder?

Looming large in ancient Greek legend is the complex Gordian Knot , which promised domain over all of Asia to whoever could untangle it.

The task seemed impossible, until 333 BC, when Alexander the Great thought outside the box and simply sliced through it with his sword.

Designed by custom knifemaker Chuck Gedraitis, the presents its own kind of puzzle, as there's no visible latch, lever, nail nick or push button with which one can release the blade.

Yet a similarly bold and unexpected stroke, firmly sliding the bolster at the top of the handle, automatically brandishes its steel.

Check out the GPKnives tweet below to see it in action. The mechanism reminds me of the one in CRKT's similarly sneaky Fulcrum 2 , although that one deploys via a two-step manual process.

The timing of this drop could not be any better either, with Halloween and Día de los Muertos just around the corner.

Beyond the cleverness of its concealed bolster release mechanism, the Hidden Release Coffin offers plenty of EDC functionality, too.

Complete with a refined ricasso, the 3.15-inch spear point blade is shaped from Sandvik 14C28N stainless steel, which promises solid edge retention and corrosion resistance at an accessible price point.

A little old-school style with some modern tricks.

The blacked-out handle, meanwhile, is made of smooth but tough G10 and outfitted with a deep-carry clip for easy pocketing.

Those key components should set you up nicely to slice through some Gordian Knots of your own.

Editor's note: Automatic deployment does limit this knife's legality, so be sure to check local regulations before considering a purchase.
