Every fall, pumpkin makes its way into coffee, candles, baked goods and approximately every other object within a five-mile radius. Naturally, the dogs would eventually ask what's in it for them.
Target brought back its limited-edition Boots & Barkleys Halloween Chicken and Pumpkin Jerky Dog Treats , giving pups their own seasonal snack. Unlike handing them a bite of whatever pumpkin-flavored thing you're eating, these were made for them. Everybody wins.
Boots & Barkley Halloween Chicken and Pumpkin Jerky Dog Treats, $3.49 (originally $4.99) at Target

The treats normally cost $4.99, but Target has them marked down to $3.49. They're also limited-edition, which is always dangerous information to give anyone who considers buying their dog treats a perfectly valid form of retail therapy.
Basically, it's the canine equivalent of seeing "seasonal flavor" on a menu and immediately deciding that's what you're getting.
The five-ounce bag of Boots & Barkley Halloween Chicken and Pumpkin Jerky Dog Treats combines chicken and pumpkin into soft, jerky-style treats for dogs of all sizes. Chicken is the first ingredient, pumpkin is the second, and Target says there are no artificial flavors, colors or preservatives.

Shoppers seem to have found some very willing taste testers. The treats currently have a 4.6-star rating, with several reviewers reporting that their dogs loved them. In a review on Target.com , one shopper with picky pups said the treats "really landed for them," while another admitted hers disappear so quickly she thinks her dog swallows them whole.
Target has gone pretty deep into Halloween goodies for dogs this year, so a seasonal snack feels like the natural companion to the costumes, sweaters and toys already threatening to follow us home.
The funny thing about fall with a dog is that they have no concept of seasonal traditions, yet somehow end up participating in all of them. We go apple picking; they get the photo. We decorate the house; they investigate every box. We buy pumpkin-flavored things; apparently, now they get jerky.
Pumpkin isn't exactly unfamiliar territory in the dog-treat aisle. Plenty of pumpkin-flavored dog treats already exist, but pairing it with chicken makes this one feel less like a "pumpkin spice latte for dogs" and more like an actual treat they might care about.
If your pup already expects compensation for watching you bring twelve decorative gourds into the house, this seems fair. After all, they didn't ask for fall. But they will absolutely take the snacks.
