Chocolate Advent calendars are a tale as old as time, but brands have been upping the ante over the years. Not too long ago, you'd peel back the perforated doors to reveal a chalky confection that loosely resembled Santa, a snowman, and the like. 2026 brings holiday countdowns from Godiva, Lindt and other coveted chocolatiers that are a feast for the eyes (and the tastebuds).

So, which ones take the cake, er, chocolate? As Yahoo's gifting expert, I've been tracking this year's newest Advent calendar releases since summer, so consider this my chocolate calendar nice list. There's a mix of high and low (in terms of price, not quality) — from Lindt's $14 favorite bestseller to a reusable wooden calendar stuffed with sweets that's 13 times the price. Most picks are packed with straight chocolate (truffles, bars, you name it!), but a few of 'em include a selection of seasonal cookies, gummy candy and other sugary-sweet surprises — I'll let your tastebuds decide whether that's a good thing.

Lindt

Number of days:24 | Chocolate variety:Milk | Shipping details:Fast shipping with Prime

When it works, it really works: Lindt's 2026 countdown has the same assortment as last year's, with two gold-foiled bears, solid chocolate balls, bite-size bars and the brand's signature truffles. The price is equally as sweet — it's one of the few chocolate Advent calendars that doesn't compromise quality for price (or vice versa).

You know what's better than one chocolate Advent calendar? Two of 'em! Nab this bundle to get two for the price of one — they're identical, so it's a treat of a deal if you've got two kids or if you want to spread the cheer, er, chocolate to a loved one.

Kinder isn't using this countdown to introduce you to something new. Nope, they've gone all-in on the thing that made them famous many moons ago, aka chocolate eggs filled with the brand's signature milk cream.

Take your taste buds on a trip to Switzerland this December, one tiny Toblerone at a time. Even the minis have the iconic peak shape, said to be inspired by the Matterhorn, a famous mountain in the Swiss Alps.

Now, let's talk chocolate: This countdown has an even spread of milk, dark and white chocolate, all of which are studded with tiny pieces of almond nougat and honey for an extra-sweet crunch.

Dylan's Candy

Number of days:24 | Chocolate variety:Milk | Shipping details:Ships now

Not sure you want to fully commit to chocolate? This confection-filled countdown from Dylan's Candy Bar is for the folks who like options. It's heavy on the cheer — there are gummy wreaths, chocolate presents, marshmallow trees, and more festive delights. Plus, priced at just $18, this assortment is all joy, no Scrooge-level price tag.

Same idea, more oomph: This Lindt bestseller is the supersized sibling to the earlier countdown on our list. Rudolph will have his work cut out for him with this sleigh full of chocolate — you'll unveil the brand's classic truffles and solid chocolate balls, along with Santa, a snowman and a jolly bunch of foil-wrapped friends.

Let's do some math, shall we? There are 35 pieces behind 24 doors. That means, you'll get more than one bite on select days.

Williams Sonoma

Number of days:24 | Chocolate variety:White and dark | Shipping details:Ships in late October

If mint chocolate treats make your heart sing (loud for all to hear), then Williams Sonoma's beloved peppermint bark is probably already a holiday staple in your house. This December, take your love up a notch with this 24-day assortment, featuring the brand's signature treat in one of four seasonal shapes: a snowman, toy soldier, Christmas tree or St. Nick himself.

Godiva pulled out all the stops with this year's countdown. You'll get 24 different chocolates — one per day! — compared to last year's 12. Some are pure milk, white or dark chocolate, while others are filled with raspberry cream, salted caramel and melt-in-your-mouth ganaches. All of which are equally as delicious.

Sugarfina

Number of days:24 | Chocolate variety:Milk and white | Shipping details:Ships now; free shipping over $150

Treat yourself to a little bit of chocolate and a whole lotta candy. Crack open this house and indulge in 24 of Sugarfina's sweetest offerings — some are odes to the season (like the snow jellies and reindeer carrots), while others bring the sunshine when the weather outside is frightful (like gummy pineapples and mangoes).

Each little drawer comes with four pieces of candy, which means you have a choice to make: Keep 'em to yourself or divvy them amongst your crew.

Compartés

Number of days:24 | Chocolate variety:Dark | Shipping details:Pre-order now, ships Nov. 2

Compartés always commits to a theme, and this year's newest countdown takes us into an enchanted kingdom brimming with delicious delights. As you make your way through the halls of the magical castle, you'll uncover 24 handcrafted chocolates in 12 seasonal flavors, including cinnamon sugar donuts, salted honeycomb and pistachio marzipan.

Now, I'm not going to pretend that splashing out a couple hundred bucks on an Advent calendar — an edible one, no less — isn't a big deal. This wooden one, however, can be stored away and reused for many Christmases to come, which makes it a wise(r) investment in my book.

The first go-around is a real treat because it comes pre-loaded with its fair share of creamy truffles, shortbread cookies and chocolate coins. You really get your money's worth because the drawers are filled with two or three truffles most days, making it great for sharing (but no judgment if you don't).
