G-Shock Gives Fans Their First Official Look at Its Viral Nautilus Lookalike

The brand's affordable, all-analog lookalike of sports watch icon is very much real and very much on the way.

The 2500 might be the year's worst-kept secret in watches.

Though not expected to launch until next month, Casio jumped the gun in September by listing the new G-Shock series series on its official Japanese website in an apparent error .

The brand quickly remedied the issue, leaving fans to merely speculate about the release. But the so-called "CasioNaut" is very real and very much coming.

Casio just delivered the first official look of the 2500 series, distributing a teaser on Instagram , Facebook and elsewhere that guarantees not only its existence but an imminent arrival.

Luxe looks, G-Shock price tag

The teaser itself is relatively short and follows in the style of other big watch releases from Rolex and the like.

However, it does confirm a few details that have made the 2500 series arguably the most anticipated G-Shock release since the 2100, a.k.a. the " CasiOak ."

The first is that it doesn't really look like a G-Shock. Or rather, it doesn't only look like a G-Shock.

The 2500 boasts a cushion-like case with softened corners and pronounced shoulders, drawing comparisons to the Patek Philippe Nautilus (hence the nickname).

Inspired by maritime ocean liners, Gérald Genta designed the Nautilus with "ears," meant to mimic the hinges of a porthole.

What's more, the 2500 is fully analog, making it a rare breed in the world of G-Shock watches. Even the traditional CasiOak has a small digital window at the 4 o'clock to display the date.

The 2500, by comparison, boasts a three-cell date window at 3 o'clock, paired with a 0-60 subdial that acts as the second hand. Rumors suggest the option to set the second hand into sleep mode to extend the battery life from two to five years.

Naturally, Casio will avoid outward comparisons to the Nautilus when the watch does make its way to fans, allowing them to draw their own conclusions.

In any case, they don't have much longer to go.

The teaser pairs a video with a simple caption that simply reads, "New G-SHOCK coming soon…"
