Every family has a Christmas photo that didn't quite go according to plan. Someone blinked, somebody's wearing the wrong color, and the dog is halfway out of the frame because a squirrel had the audacity to exist outside. It's usually the photo everyone ends up loving most, which feels very appropriate for anything inspired by Christmas Vacation .
Kohl's National Lampoon's Christmas Vacation Bus Pet Sweater brings a little Griswold-style holiday chaos to your dog's wardrobe. The festive knit is inspired by the classic movie, and it's on sale for $19.99. If your family Christmas tends to involve more mishaps than matching pajamas, this feels like the right dress code.

The acrylic sweater comes in four sizes, from small through extra-large, and has a leash opening for walks. It's machine washable, which is a useful feature for something that might be worn through several holiday gatherings.
Kohl's recommends small for dogs weighing 5 to 10 pounds, medium for 10 to 20 pounds, large for 20 to 50 pounds, and extra-large for 50 to 90 pounds. Weight is only a starting point, though. Measure your dog's chest and back before ordering, especially if they're built like a loaf of bread or have a particularly deep chest.
PetHelpful recently featured Anthropologie's holiday dog throw , another festive find for households that believe dogs deserve a prominent role in Christmas decorating.
I like the idea of pairing this sweater with a Christmas tree, some wrapped presents, and absolutely no expectation that the dog will cooperate. A perfectly posed picture is nice, but a blurry one featuring an enthusiastic tail and someone's abandoned slipper usually tells a better story.
The sweater also works for a holiday walk or a casual visit with family, as long as your dog is comfortable wearing clothes. Make sure the fit allows easy movement and doesn't rub around the legs or neck.

A Little Griswold Energy for the Family Photo
For anyone building a whole collection of dog-themed Christmas keepsakes, PetHelpful also covered Anthropologie's needlepoint pet ornament kits . There's even a dachshund option for the particularly devoted.
At around $20 on sale, the Kohl's sweater is a relatively inexpensive way to bring a little movie nostalgia into the season. You don't need to recreate the entire Griswold household to appreciate the reference.
Although if your dog knocks over the Christmas tree during the photo session, you may have accidentally achieved a more authentic result than planned.
