If you've ever set foot in a gym, gone on a run or braved a group class, you know that your exercise gear is almost as important to your fitness journey as the workout itself. Good workout leggings and sneakers can give you an extra boost of support and confidence, but bad ones can cause workout-ending chafing and blisters. And you'll need the best sports bra possible — one that actually supports your chest without suffocating you or rubbing in the wrong places.

But finding that perfect sports bra that checks all your boxes can feel like a workout in itself. The best sports bra for one person isn't necessarily the right one for another: Your perfect bra depends on how you're built, how you're exercising and how much bounce control you actually need.

To find the best ones for a range of preferences, activities and sizes, we tested 29 top sports bras with a diverse panel, ranging from petite to plus-size sports bra wearers from ages 25-44 and bra sizes 30B-38DD. We took insights from their feedback (1,189 responses and scores), plus expert evaluations and interviews to settle on the ultimate list, from light-as-air yoga bras to high-support winners that won't budge during a jump squat.

The best sports bras of 2026

Victoria's Secret/Yahoo

Sizes:32B-44G | Material:71% polyamide, 29% elastane | Colors:32 | Support:High | Compression or encapsulation:Compression

Why we love it: It's rare to come across a sports bra that offers high-impact support and sizing options for larger cup sizes while being comfortable, foamy-soft and wireless. In fact, that's pretty much a unicorn find. This lightweight, sweat-wicking sports bra provides far more support and separation than you might expect from its soft construction, with adjustable straps that can be converted to a racerback.

What our testers say: "Probably the best sports bra I've ever worn," writes Yahoo Content Operations Manager Amanda Rickert , who gave this bra a perfect 5/5 in every category except for ease of taking it on and off due to the back closure. "It feels like it was custom-molded to my body." Rickert raves about the high-quality fabric, the flexibility of the band and the overall security. "I'm genuinely flabbergasted," she writes. "I did not know sports bras could feel like this. The molding really keeps them in place without making them feel overly squished."

Keep in mind: "I guess the only potential issue is that it does require some effort to close the clasp when you're putting it on," says Rickert, giving it a 4/5 because it may be harder to close if you have wrist mobility limitations. She jokes that the only downside was that she didn't own more of these bras. Senior Style Editor Jessica Teich also tried this bra and notes that, though the cups were slightly too big, the bra was "damn-near excellent" except for needing to size down in the cup.

Pros
  • High support without any discomfort
  • Molded cups offer separation and lift
  • Material is sweat-wicking
  • Lightweight feel
Cons
  • Hook-and-eye clasp can be difficult to secure

Amazon/Yahoo

Sizes:S–XXL | Material:87% nylon, 13% spandex | Colors:17 | Support:Low | Compression or encapsulation:Compression

Why we love it:  All the cool girls are wearing bra tanks and longline sports bras. They're so flattering and easy to pair with leggings or workout shorts. This affordable Amazon option surprised us when we tried it out — it's comfortable, cute and at just over $20, you could stock up on multiple colors.

What our testers say: At this price, I was pleasantly surprised to find that this bra was compressive and comfortable. It reduced bounce much more than I would have expected upon first inspection. I gave it 5/5 for fit and comfort, as I'm just as likely to wear this for a day of working from home as I am to wear it while doing an incline walk on the treadmill.

Keep in mind: This doesn't have the same buttery-soft feel as a more expensive workout tank, and that's okay. I also found that the pads were slightly big and stuck out a little above the neckline at first. That went away with a little zhuzhing. Lastly, the straps are not adjustable, although I didn't mind the fixed length.

Pros
  • Very comfortable for working out and lounging
  • Lots of color options
  • Good compression, reduced bounce
  • Stretchy and fits well
Cons
  • Not as buttery-soft
  • Padding is a little big

Lululemon/Yahoo

Sizes:32B–42DDD | Material:59% nylon, 41% elastane | Color:1 | Support:High | Compression or encapsulation:Encapsulation

Why we love it: Intense workouts like HIIT, CrossFit, running and sprinting call for a sports bra that's designed to support the chest properly. The Lululemon Run Times Bra is designed to encapsulate each breast separately to avoid the dreaded uniboob effect and offers strong band support as well.

What our testers say: Teich describes this bra as "definitely the best fit and most performance-based for larger breasts," giving it 5s for durability, comfort and mobility. Teich specifically calls out the fitted band, highlighting it as "by far" the best-fitting among all the sports bras she tested. She adds, "It's the highest-quality fabric I've tried of the lot. It wicks sweat and dries the fastest."

Keep in mind: Teich notes that the cups were a little big, and therefore shifted around a little. She adds that had the cups been the correct size, the bra would have been very supportive.

Pros
  • Encapsulated fit
  • High-quality fabric
  • Excellent sweat wicking
  • Well-fitting band
Cons
  • Cups run a little big

Athleta/Yahoo

Sizes:XXS–3X | Material:75% recycled polyester, 25% Lycra elastane | Colors:9 | Support:Medium | Compression or encapsulation:Compression

Why we love it: This medium-impact bra is among the most versatile picks across exercise types, so if you're someone who likes to flit between various group exercise classes, cardio and strength training, the Athleta Circuit Train Bra is a great pick.

What our testers say: Assistant Editor Isabelle Paquette describes this sports bra as "supportive and compressive without making me feel suffocated or restricted," giving it 5/5 for lift and compression. "I didn't experience any discomfort or shifting during my cardio session." Paquette also appreciates that the fabric stays cool and that there's enough structure for doing jumping jacks "without anything riding up."

Keep in mind: Paquette didn't love the dual-strap design, giving it a 3/5 for personal design preference: "I do not and have never liked this strap style because it always looks unflattering on me," she writes. "It also makes the bra slightly difficult to take on and off." I also own this sports bra and have no problem with the dual-strap back, though I agree it takes some adjusting when you first pull it on.

Vuori/Yahoo

Sizes:XXS–XXL | Material:75% recycled polyamide, 25% elastane | Colors:8 | Support:Low | Compression or encapsulation:Compression

Why we love it: Bra haters, this one is for you. This soft, buttery bra feels like a well-worn T-shirt with lots of stretch and a reinforced band. I found it to be so pretty and flattering thanks to the scooped neckline and thin, racerback straps, and surprisingly performant despite the intentionally low support.

What our testers say: For workouts that don't require much compression, this is as comfy as it gets. I wore this bra to an SLT class and its extra-soft fit offered just enough support for light workouts. In fact, it almost feels like wearing nothing at all: I could fall asleep in this bra.

Keep in mind: There is no padding, and you can't add your own inserts. However, this ended up being less of a problem than anticipated since I chose to buy the bra in black and the dark fabric concealed most nipple peek-through.

Pros
  • Extra-buttery soft material
  • Good stretch
  • Racerback straps for mobility
  • Barely there feel
Cons
  • No padding

Natori/Yahoo

Sizes:30C–40G | Material:84% polyester, 16% spandex | Colors:4 | Support:Medium | Compression or encapsulation:Encapsulation

Why we love it: This Yogi Bra from Natori is our top pick for a true full-coverage option for large busts. Large-busted testers gave it a 5/5 for fit, thanks to the wide range of cup sizes and the fabric layer that adds additional coverage at the center of the bust. It even features side boning in the wide panels to smooth out any side spillover.

What our testers say: Senior Home Editor Jessica Dodell-Feder gave this bra an overall score of 4.4/5 thanks to the "great coverage," extra-soft fabric and cami-style fit. "Because of my large cup size, I find that even with very supportive sports bras, I often end up with cleavage that I don't really want at the gym, especially in a yoga class," she notes. "The overlay on this bra covers that completely."

Keep in mind: Dodell-Feder calls the strap adjustment "straight-up bizarre": "You slip the hooks into individual slots sewn into the strap rather than sliding an adjuster up or down to loosen or tighten the straps." She also notes that the nude color shows sweat pretty easily.

Pros
  • Full-coverage cups
  • Side boning to smooth out sides
  • Extra fabric overlay
  • Supportive for a wide range of cup sizes
Cons
  • Unusual hook-and-slot strap adjustment
  • Lighter colors show sweat

Lululemon/Yahoo

Sizes:2–14 | Material:75% nylon, 25% elastane | Colors:3 | Support:Low | Compression or encapsulation:Compression

Why we love it: This bra has soft, substantial foam cups with no removable pads to fold in on themselves or disappear in the washing machine. The thin straps and low square neckline give the bra a pretty, delicate feel, perfect for someone with a small bust who doesn't require much support.

What our testers say: "I appreciated that this style had very subtle padding that made me feel more secure while working out in a cold gym," says Home Editor Elizabeth Berry . "The padding avoids nipples showing through, so I can wear just a sports bra on a hot day without feeling self-conscious." Berry gave the quality and material a 5/5, describing it as "thick and substantial, but still breathable."

Keep in mind: The straps are not adjustable. Berry appreciates how the lack of buckles gives the bra a streamlined look, but it's definitely not designed for a larger cup size, which may require loosening the straps.

Pros
  • Soft foam front lining
  • Delicate design and pretty neckline
  • High-quality material
Cons
  • Straps aren't adjustable

Nike/Yahoo

Sizes:XXS–XXL | Material:47% polyester, 42% nylon, 11% spandex | Colors:8 | Support:Medium | Compression or encapsulation:Compression

Why we love it: If you're looking for a reliable, no-fuss sports bra for everyday sweat sessions and errand-running, Nike is the brand for you. My personal favorite, the Nike Pro Seamless Bra, is made of a comfortable, stretchy ribbed material, offers effective compression and feels barely-there around the shoulders thanks to the thin racerback straps.

What our testers say: This sports bra is like a PB&J sandwich or a comfort show — it's not particularly flashy, but totally reliable. It's comfortable, supportive and it even layers nicely under clothing if you're running late and need to throw a blouse over your sports bra post-workout.

Keep in mind: The thin straps, which are great for upper body mobility, may not be supportive enough if you have a very large chest. They're also not adjustable.

Pros
  • Reliable and no-fuss
  • Comfortable ribbed material
  • Great shoulder mobility from thin racerback straps
Cons
  • Thin straps aren't adjustable, not ideal for large cup sizes

Amazon

Sizes:S–3XL | Material:100% nylon | Colors:6 | Support:Medium | Compression or encapsulation:Encapsulation

Why we love it: With a wireless, front-zip style, this bra makes feeding a breeze, whether you're mid-workout or on the go. It offers enough compression and structure to keep everything comfortably in place during light- to medium-impact movement without digging or irritating. And it comes in a pack of three so you always have multiple on hand.

What our testers say:"As a mom who breastfed four kids, I can attest that a front-zip bra is essential during this stage," says Contributing Writer Brigitt Earley . "It's nearly impossible to give your baby access comfortably in a regular sports bra. Plus, this level of support matters when you're nursing and your breasts are generally more tender and sensitive."

Keep in mind:The zip-front design is incredibly convenient, but the zipper can show through light or thin tops.

Pros
  • Easy access for your baby
  • Adequate support for tender breasts
  • Wider size range
Cons
  • Zipper may show through tops

How we test sports bras

Our extensive sports bra testing process gathers feedback from testers with a range of body types, sizes and preferences. In our most recent test, we recruited 13 testers who ranged from petite to plus-size, ages 25-44 and bra sizes 30B-38DD to try 29 bras.

They ran, cycled, lifted and even napped in their bras before filling out a 40-plus-question survey about comfort, durability, support and fit. I paired their 1,189 survey responses and scores with my own expertise working in fashion and wearing sports bras six days a week to finalize this list of winners.

What to consider when shopping for sports bras

Whether you're running errands or a marathon, you want a sports bra that's both comfortable and supportive for your activity and your specific bust shape and size. To find the option that best suits your needs, there are several factors to consider:

Size

As with any other clothing purchase, your size may vary from brand to brand — sometimes even from product to product. The best way to ensure a good fit is to shop for sports bras that are sold by bra size rather than letter or number sizing (S, M, L, or 4, 6, 8, 10). However, that's not always an option, so be sure to check the size chart and see if the brand offers guidance on selecting the correct size before adding it to your cart. And keep in mind that sports bras are designed to fit snugly for support, so you may need to size up depending on the product and your shape.

Support features

While you can't know for sure how supportive a sports bra will be before you work up a sweat in it, there are some design features to keep an eye out for that are good indicators of its level of support. "A regular pullover bra can be too stretchy to be supportive for some people," says Jené Luciani Sena , bra expert and author of The Bra Book . "If this is you, you may look for an encapsulation-style sports bra with separated cups, an adjustable band, and a hook-and-eye closure so you can customize the support like a regular bra."

Underwire may be helpful too. It sometimes gets a bad rap from a comfort standpoint, but in our testing, we found that it played an important role in lifting the bust and keeping it secure inside your sports bra, particularly for testers with larger busts. On the other hand, testers with smaller busts or those who preferred low-impact exercise generally enjoyed the ease of a wireless sports bra and didn't mind fixed straps on products like the Lemedy Longline Sports Bra and the Lululemon Like a Cloud Bra .

Activity and impact levels

If you're doing a form of exercise that involves more movement, rebounding and intensity, you'll need a sports bra that offers stronger compression and hold, whereas you might be able to get away with something looser for low-impact activities.

  • If you tend to do HIIT or other high-intensity workouts like running, boxing and jumping, you might want a high-impact sports bra. These bras tend to be tighter and more restrictive to reduce bounce, which can help reduce discomfort. You'll often find high-impact sports bras that offer lots of coverage to help support and distribute the weight of breast tissue.

  • If you tend to do cycling, reformer Pilates or weightlifting, a medium-impact sports bra may be a good option for you. They offer moderate compression that keeps things supported without feeling overly restrictive.

  • If you prefer activities like yoga, walking or mat Pilates, a low-impact sports bra will do the trick. They offer lighter support and are generally more comfortable.

Compression vs. encapsulation

  • "Compression brasuse one piece of fabric to compress both breasts into the chest wall," says Mari Thomas-Welland , sports bra engineer and founder of MAAREE . It's typically what we think of when we think "sports bra." They have a snug fit, pull on overhead and offer security by putting pressure on the breasts.

  • "Encapsulation brassupport each breast separately," explains Thomas-Welland. They are usually marketed toward women who have larger breasts and feature a separate cup for each breast to eliminate bounce and prevent the chest from being squished together.

Best sports bra FAQs

How should a sports bra fit?

A sports bra should fit snugly without being so constricting that it digs into your skin or makes you feel like you can't breathe. "The cups of a sports bra should fit securely, without being so tight that your breasts begin to come out the top or sides," says fitness expert Heather Wilson-Phillips .

How do you prevent chafing when wearing a sports bra?

"Too loose or too snug, and you're in for trouble," says Kim Turner, fitness expert and founder and CEO of sock brand Fitness Snob , who explains that a sports bra that's not fitted enough can slide around and cause irritation. "And of course, moisture-wicking fabric and seamless designs are lifesavers too." Cleanliness also plays a role. "Get out of that bra promptly post-workout and keep it fresh by washing regularly to avoid lingering sweat or dirt residue," she says.

Is it OK to wear a sports bra all day?

If you're just running errands or lounging, wearing a sports bra all day is totally fine. But once you've worked up a sweat, it's time to switch out. Like Turner mentions, bras collect sweat and dirt during a workout, so freshening up keeps things comfortable and clean. And Kimmay Caldwell , undergarment educator, notes that changing out of a sweaty sports bra is a matter of longevity too: "Perspiration, when dried down, makes elastic brittle and can ruin the fit of the bra over time."

When should you throw out sports bras?

I've found that sports bras I wear and wash frequently need to be replaced every six to 12 months, whereas ones I wear less often can last much longer. Even the best sports bras aren't meant to last forever — dryer heat and sweat can break down elastic and stretch it out over time. A simple rule of thumb: If it no longer feels comfortable or supportive, it's time to swap it out, since a stretched-out sports bra won't give you the same level of support or shape.
