Turtleson’s $150 Mystery Box Leaves the Polo Picks to Someone Else
Turtleson is asking golfers to make room for a shirt they might never have chosen for themselves. A different stripe, perhaps, or a color that would have been easy to pass over while shopping. With its mystery box, the company gets to make those selections before the customer sees the assortment.
The returning promotion is scheduled for Friday, Oct. 30, through Sunday, Nov. 1. Turtleson says $150 buys four surprise polos, with shoppers selecting their preferred size and the company choosing the colors, patterns and styles. There is no picking a favorite polo and then adding three more to complete the deal.

About the value:Turtleson values the assortment at $400. The contents and claimed value have not been independently verified.
The Bristol, Tennessee-based company began the promotion in 2018. Co-founder and CEO Greg Oakley describes it as something his team still enjoys assembling.
"Nine years in, our mystery box sale is still as much fun for us as it is for our customers," Oakley said in the announcement.
Turtleson gets four chances to make an impression on someone trying the brand. Its team selects the assortment, which could include colors and patterns that shopper might have skipped when browsing individual shirts. An existing customer could find something beyond the styles they already know they like.
For the golfer, the willingness to wear those unfamiliar selections is part of the purchase. Someone happy to put a different look into the weekly rotation may enjoy letting the company choose. A player who wants a particular shade to match a pair of shorts has a reason to keep shopping shirt by shirt.
Turtleson values the four-polo box at $400. That figure belongs to the company; the individual selections have not been identified for an independent price comparison. The announced $150 price comes to $37.50 per shirt before any applicable shipping charges and taxes.
Four Shirts, With the Details Still to Check
The box also asks a little more of anyone buying it as a gift. Knowing the recipient's size gets the order started, but it does not settle whether that person will like somebody else's choices. Before committing, the buyer needs to know what happens if the fit or selection misses.
Turtleson's general policy makes sale items final sale, with no return, refund or exchange. Its standard ground shipping is $10, with free ground shipping on orders of $200 or more. The company says the offer will be available exclusively online through its mystery-box page. For Oakley, the hoped-for result comes after the purchase, when a customer discovers a shirt that earns its way into regular use.
"We love bringing together surprise collections of our signature polos in different styles and colors, and helping customers discover an unexpected new favorite," he said.
