Welcome to the MH Gear Report , where Men’s Health gear and tech experts find the coolest new releases in gear, technology, home goods, and more. Plus, some insights into new gear we've been testing lately.
THE CALENDAR ISfinally getting to the warm months, and we’ve been deep in it testing warm weather gear. With the World Cup coming soon, lots of brands are doing soccer gear—and the Allagash x Umbro collab might be the best effort yet. Yeti’s new Trailhead Field Chair is the brand’s lightest chair ever, one that’s way more packable yet just as durable as its previous two offerings. And The James Brand has updated its longtime flagship pocket knife, The Elko . Gear-wise, this summer is shaping up to literally be a sharp one.
1) Allagash Brewing Company x Umbro Soccer Jersey
In case you hadn’t heard yet, June will be the second time the U.S. will co-host the World Cup, and Americans have soccer fever. Count us in on Maine top brewery’s recent foray into its own kit with legendary Umbro. The blue-ish purple color mimics the Allagash Wilderness Waterway and it’s brought me straight back to the ‘90s. I’m not a big soccer guy and I’ve been wearing this one with pride. While it’s on hold for orders now (because the first pre-sale sold so quickly), it’ll become available again sometime soon.

2) Herschel Supply Co Watt Sunday Golf Bag
Herschel Supply Co gets into the golf game with a new collection of bags for the course. The most intriguing to me is the Watt Sunday Golf Bag, which still has enough room for a full set of 14 clubs but is slimmed down to be nice and easy for those lazy round walks.

3) Municipal Sportcross ATG
Fitness and Reviews Editor Charles Thorp, NASM is a big fan of multi-use anything, including shoes. “This is one of the reasons I dig Municipal’s Sportcross ATG,” he says. “Municipal has managed to build a durable golf shoe that’ll keep you locked in on the course, while also being able to transition from anything like long walks to trail runs.”

4) Cotopaxi Coraza Suitcase Carry On
The Utah outdoor brand gets into the hard suitcase game with a very Cotopaxi build. Its high-quality, swappable wheels mean you can roll this sideways, and it’s big enough to stack a bag on top or tilt like a standard roller. Executive Editor Ben Court has found the interior organizer to his liking thanks to a section that keeps dirty shoe soles away from clean clothes. His one issue though is to beware of the latch. As Court says, “The latch closure takes a minute to learn and if (when) you overstuff your suitcase you risk slamming your fingers because the latch opens with a smack. I figured it out quickly but it's something first-time users should be aware of and unlatch it with care!”

5) The James Brand The Elko 2.0
Sometimes the simplest tools can be the most impactful. Like The James Brand Elko, a legendary pocket knife that’s well-made and features a pry bar on the butt end that puts it into multi-tool territory. The new 2.0 version has a softer, grippier handle and design. There’s not a keychain knife that looks (and functions) better.
6) Yeti Trailhead Field Chair
Years ago, Yeti’s Trailhead Camp Chair became one of the toughest outdoor chairs ever made. But it was a bit heavy (13.3 lbs) for anything but car camping and using in the backyard. The Hondo Beach Chair last year proved perfectly capable for sand expeditions. And this year Yeti gave us a stripped down Trailhead Field Chair that comes in at just over 9 lbs. Now, you won’t be backcountry camping with something like that, but you can use it in a lot more situations out in the field. And yes, it’s sturdy as all heck.
7) Altra Experience Flow 3 x Pleasures
After running a marathon, your toes will be thrashed. For the following week, you’ll want the widest, plushest shoes you can find—but most orthopedic shoes are ugly. Senior Fitness Editor Brett Williams, NASM was faced with this conundrum after running the Boston Marathon recently. He was ready to sacrifice looks for comfort until he had gotten this eye-catching collab from wide-toebox specialist Altra and LA streetwear brand Pleasures. “My week of mid fits was saved,” he says. “The metallic silver colorway is striking, causing multiple people to double take and ask what I was wearing. Even better, I was able to hobble through my routine without pain from my kicks pinching my toes.”

8) Suunto Spark Open Ear Headphones
Suunto’s latest offering is a comfortable open ear pair with the brand’s expected IP55 durability rating. The open ear design is easy to get a snug fit without any ear strain when worn for hours. The audio is solid and has 36 hours of battery on a single charge.

9) Dyson HushJet Mini Cool Fan
It’s not hot yet, but the 90-degree days are coming. And when that happens, Dyson’s new mini fan could be a god send. With fast, evaporative cooling this powerful personal fan can offer airflow speeds up to 55 mph. It weighs only 7.5 oz and sports 6 hours of battery life, meaning you’ve got a portable way to beat the heat this summer.

10) Rhone Commuter Pro Cotton Shirt
Rhone’s Commuter Collection is unmatched when it comes to office-ready basics made for active men. The brand recently overhauled the MH editor-loved line and added this new cotton option. Just like the OG Commuter Shirt , it’s infused with stretch materials, so it moves and breathes easily during morning shuttles. The cotton fabric looks more like traditional button-ups and plays well under blazers.

11) Brooks Ghost 18
Brooks’ top everyday running shoe gets an update with the new Ghost 18. The Ghost 17 was a pretty big update to the shoe getting the DNA Loft V3 midsole (and more of stack height), so the 18 is a bit more of a baby step forward. That’s not a bad thing as the midsole is still a great blend of energy return and cushion. The 18 does get an upgraded sockliner and soft, flat knit tongue.
12) Twelve South CableStay USB-C Cable & Weighted Anchor
This weighted anchor and USB-C cable combo solves that annoying problem when your cable end slides back behind that desk, table, or chair, leaving you to get down on hands and knees to string it back through for charging access. The weighted anchor is actually universal and can be used on any cable. Goodbye charging headaches.
13) NutriBullet Chill Ice Cream Maker
Ice cream and summer are a match made in heaven. And this new countertop ice cream maker from NutriBullet is compact, easy to use, and produces some legit concoctions from sorbet to frozen yogurt to smoothie bowls to just regular ol’ ice cream. It blends well in every setting type, and while it doesn’t allow for mix-ins, the value is certainly there with this new appliance.
14) REI Westward 6 Tent
15) Nobull Journey 2
16) Coast Longshot LS20R
This has been one of my favorite outdoor gadgets lately. Portland’s Coast’s handheld spotlight delivers 2,500 lumens that can reach up to a quarter mile. The multiple lighting modes work in lots of situations. And it’s also waterproof and floats, making it a must-pack when I head out for early evening paddles in the canoe.
17) Pelican Dayventure Sling Soft Cooler
When you need a cooler that can go anywhere and is easy to carry, this new Dayventure Sling from Pelican should be given consideration. It’ll fit 12 cans, which is a pretty ideal size if you’re slinging cold drinks on your back. It’s built with Pelican’s dependable standards, meaning it’s got water-sealing zippers and a tearproof outershell.
18) Nike Pegasus 1 Golf
19) Nemo Endless Promise Down Sleeping Bag
20) Vuori Terrain Jacket
Vuori’s new lightweight running jacket is a great option for early morning and evening runs when there’s that bit of chill in the air. Its recycled polyester is built for high-intensity with a trim, flattering fit that doesn’t restrict movement. Underarm vents keep you dry while a water-resistant finish ensures that from the outside as well.
