G-Shock's rugged Master of G model has always prioritized practical outdoor functionality over flash, but there's also a charm to its simplicity. It's evolved considerably over the years, with the latest GW-9500 arriving in 2023. This version refines the formula while embracing the aesthetic of Casio's own Pro Trek range. And now, the OD green variant is discounted at a super low price.

Debuting in 2023, the digital watch now features a dual-layer LCD display where compass information can now appear at the top of the face without disturbing the time below. - Credit: Casio
Sporting a much larger, more dominant digital display, the 9500 introduced a dual-layer LCD that makes the compass easier to read, displaying graphics on the top of the screen while keeping the time visible below. It's also 3.4mm thinner than the previous model (14.8mm total) while increasing the width of the resin case to 52.7mm.

Rounding things out is Casio's Triple Sensor technology (a first for the Mudman), which provides the aforementioned compass bearings, altitude and barometric pressure readings and temperature measurements for navigating and monitoring conditions outside.
As to be expected, the watch has 200m of water resistance, a Carbon Core Guard structure for shock resistance and Multi Band 6 for timekeeping accuracy.

The sale
Currently, G-Shock is running a sale on its GW-9500-3. This version has an OD green case and matching resin strap. Meanwhile, the display is a tactical-style reverse LCD, meaning the background is black with gray digits.
It's priced at 20 percent off from the brand's website. That means it's just $336, down from $420.
