Hokas have become a household name, and it's easy to see why: you can't step outside without running into someone wearing those chunky, colorful shoes with maximally cushy soles. Loved by nurses, health care professionals and people who spend all day on their feet, Hoka's sneakers have an unmistakable plush-bordering-on-bouncy step. Its trademark rocking sole "helps with propulsion," explains Polina Zaydenberg , D.P.M., a New York-based podiatrist. "And the sole is also a good shock absorber."

That's why Hokas are some of the best shoes on the market when it comes to comfortable walking shoes , running shoes and even orthopedic shoes . The high-quality, reliable reputation comes with a commensurate price tag, making it even more important to find the right style for you. With nearly 200 options for women's shoes and more than 160 for men, it can be difficult to do so.

To figure it out, we teamed with podiatrists, athletes, trainers and our in-house footwear experts to find the very best Hoka shoes to take you from trail to travel.  In our most recent tests, our panel of testers wear-tested five different Hoka styles for several weeks, evaluating each pair based on 22 to 37 factors, from design to performance to satisfaction. After tallying the results from 266 survey questions answered, we homed in on the best Hoka shoe styles that performed best and make even 10,000-step travel days feel like a walk in the park.

The best Hoka shoes of 2026

Carolin Lehmann/Yahoo

Sizes: 4-12 (W); 7-16 (M) | Widths: Regular, Wide, X-Wide | Weight: 8.34 oz. | Heel drop: 8mm

Why we love it:Cliftons nabbed the highest score in our recent tests, with a perfect 5/5 for support, stability, comfort and breathability, which ultimately earned them top billing as our most comfortable walking shoes for women . This style is a great everyday, versatile shoe that balances signature cushioning with a lighter weight and more nimbleness and more inclusive sizing than other Hoka styles. This line is among the brand's most popular, and the Clifton 11 is its most recent iteration; we previously tested — and loved — the Hoka Clifton 8 and Clifton 10, both earlier and now-discontinued models.

What our experts say:"They're absolutely cloud-like," said one tester. "They were the only shoes that didn't exacerbate my plantar fasciitis (especially when I walked for hours.)" Another added, "The cushioned sneakers are undoubtedly the most comfortable walking shoes I've ever tried, and I loved that there was no break-in time." Editor Rebecca Carhart said in her Hoka Bondi vs. Hoka Clifton review. "They're versatile, flexible and bouncy for active days, and a great pick for beginner runners or anyone who's unsure of their specific sneaker preferences, making them our ultimate winners."

Keep in mind:Testers unanimously agreed that this style is chunky, but it does not feel too heavy. "While they're definitely a little bulky, they're still really lightweight and comfortable enough for all-day wear," one tester said, though she found them a bit narrow. The knit upper is breathable and the rubber sole provides great traction, but if you need more protection, there's also a weatherproof GTX version .

Pros
  • Best for all-day wear
  • Best range of sizes and widths
  • Lightweight yet cushioned
  • Available in weatherproof styles
Cons
  • Some testers found they ran narrow

Sizes: 4-12 (W); 7-16 (M) | Widths: Regular, Wide, X-Wide | Weight: 9.3 oz. | Heel drop: 5mm

Why we love it:Bondis tied with Cliftons as our testers' favorite overall sneaker and the brand's most size-inclusive. They're Hoka's plushest, most cloud-like sneaker, which is saying a lot for a brand that's known for cushioned soles. It's unsurprising they received a 5/5 for cushioning: These sporty kicks have the most luxe footbed and thickest, highest sole of the bunch, making them a great option for standing all day, or for anyone whose feet need ultra-plush cushioning.

What our experts say:"Hoka's Bondi 9 creates a plush, comfortable feel like no other shoe," raved one tester. "Your feet immediately feel cradled and comfortable as soon as you put them on." Another added, "Despite being the heaviest shoes I tried, they completely feel lightweight even though they're chunky." One marathoner and former Hoka ambassador is also a fan: "I love the cushioning on these shoes. I use this shoe daily as a mom on the go," they said.

Keep in mind:They're slightly less secure than other picks. One tester said they "feel slightly wobblier than some others," and added, "the grip is secure, but not perfect. It can feel a little slick on wet pavement and less secure on rocky surfaces. They're super comfortable over long runs, though." At a slightly higher price with "a thick heel that feels less springy," according to one tester, Cliftons are still our top pick for most people, but if premium cushioning is what you're after, this is it.

Pros
  • Best for standing all day
  • Best cushioning
  • Thickest footbed and sole
  • Wide range of sizes and widths
Cons
  • Slightly less secure

Sizes: 5-12 (W); 7-16 (M) | Widths: Regular, Wide, X-Wide | Weight: 8.62 oz. | Heel drop: 6mm

Why we love it: Gaviotas may be less known than the uber-popular Clifton or Bondi sneakers, but they are Hoka's most stabilizing everyday walking shoe. Its internal H-frame provides balance on both sides and across the center of the foot, and testers rated it 5/5 for performance, support and stability. We love that the added support doesn't sacrifice that signature Hoka bounce at all; plus, the added plushness on the tongue and ankle collar feels luxurious and comfy.

What our experts say:Gaviotas are the go-to pick of marathoner and owner of Los Angeles-based Sorrel Pilates Studio, Charlotte Gatmaitan . "I have an over-pronation when I run, and the stability cushioning helps me go the distance without the resulting knee pain I get when I run with shoes with less stability," she says. Gatmaitan particularly loves the sole construction, noting they "don't pick anything up in the bottom of my shoes, which helps my runs stay smooth and comfortable. This seemingly small detail makes a huge difference in my comfort, and is the reason I reach for my Gaviotas almost exclusively for my everyday runs."

Keep in mind:Testers lauded the stability of these sneaks, but found the comfort and aesthetic slightly lacking. "Their heel fits a bit looser than the other Hokas I tried, landing them at a 4/5 for a comfortable fit," said one, who added, "I would recommend these to someone who wants a really substantial shoe and doesn't mind a very chunky look. I think their quality is great, but I just wouldn't grab for them over the Bondis and Cliftons."

Pros
  • Balanced stability and plushness from the internal H-frame
  • Highly supportive
  • Ultra-padded tongue
  • 0.48 oz lighter than previous version
Cons
  • A bit bulky

Sizes:6-15 (W); 5-14 (M) | Widths:Regular | Weight:7.52 oz. | Heel drop:7 mm

Why we love it:Hoka's Cielo X1 3.0 shoes are built for speed. A recent 2026 launch, they're the brand's most lightweight shoe — and also the most expensive. These technical shoes are designed for serious runners and feel super bouncy, propelling you forward with their chunky, curved soles. That's why they got a perfect 5/5 score for comfort.

What our experts say:Testers found that "they’re super comfortable and have no break-in period. I walked 12,000 steps the first time I wore them and came home with no blisters or sore feet." The ultra-cushioned sole is great for longer runs: "They're super responsive, light and they make me feel like I'm flying," says former professional triathlete Carolyn Carter , who's been wearing iterations of this style for years. "I've already done two races in these!"

Keep in mind:Testers gave these a lower stability score due to the unique sole. “They have a curved, chunky, propulsive sole that takes a second to get used to, but once I started walking I didn't notice it anymore,” said one tester. Their appearance was polarizing too: some testers didn’t love the “sporty, unisex style” and wished they came in more colors. They are the most expensive Hokas on our list.

Pros
  • Perfect comfort scores; no break-in period
  • Lightest-weight option
  • Unique curved sole for optimal propulsion
Cons
  • Limited color options
  • Very expensive

Hoka

Sizes:5-11 (W); 7-15 (M) | Widths: Regular, Wide | Weight: 9.7 oz. | Heel drop: 5mm

Why we love it: These are among Hoka's sleekest style without much of the brand's signature bulk, making them versatile and cute for everyday wear. An easy-on, easy-off option, Transports secure with elastic bungee closures. The water-repellent hiking shoes are also relatively lightweight, making them easier to pack than other styles.

What our experts say:Volker loves Hoka Transports for long travel days. They come in multiple weatherproof GTX versions, which add another ounce of weight but protect against the elements on unpredictable (or variable) travels. "I love the traction, especially with the cold, wet winters in my area," says Volker of a previous version of the Transports. "They are very comfortable," she says, adding that even on busy travel days, "my feet never hurt. They're also fashionable with every outfit!"

Keep in mind:Some shoppers find they run a bit narrow. These aren't as highly cushioned as other Hokas, but the brand did up the cushioning on this latest version and has made the shoe even softer, with a cushier sockliner and collar.

Pros
  • Easy on and off
  • Sleekest silhouette
  • Lightweight for easy packing
Cons
  • Less cushioning than other Hoka styles

How we tested the best Hoka shoes

To figure out which Hokas are the best of the best, we started with research — lots of it. We interviewed leading podiatrists and podiatric surgeons to understand what makes a great, supportive walking shoe. We also solicited feedback and insights from five additional field experts, including hiking professionals, ultramarathoners and athletes, who weighed in with their experience. Finally, we sought insights from our shopping editors who have years of experience testing and evaluating footwear not only for performance, but also for style and durability.

We used these insights to hone in on a final collection of styles for testing. In our latest round of tests, testers wore five pairs of Hokas over the span of months on long walks, runs, travel days and workouts. Each one tested and ranked the shoes based on 22 to 37 factors each, ranging from design to performance to satisfaction. Their feedback was then weighted and scored. After parsing through 266 survey questions answered, we whittled down to our top picks.

What to consider when shopping for Hokas

Podiatrists generally agree that Hoka makes a great shoe, but there are some things you'll need to consider to find the right pair for your body, needs and lifestyle.

Support

Supportive walking shoes are a must, but what that support means to each person can vary. "When shopping for Hokas and any running or athletic wear shoe, considering your natural gait is always more important than the shoe's aesthetics," Gatmaitan says. "If your purpose is to improve your fitness and wellness journey, set yourself up for success and get the right support that your feet and body need."

Hoka sneakers are known for their supportive feel and a variety of options for different foot types. Here's what to keep in mind:

  • Arch support: A proper arch is key to keeping your feet comfortable and pain-free all day. Keep in mind that higher arches will require even more arch support than lower ones. All of the Hokas we tested scored well for arch support, but we also like that they have removable insoles if you need to supplement with something more customized.

  • Stabilizing features:If you under- or over-pronate, you may need a shoe with more structure and stabilization to keep your foot in a neutral position. (Not sure? You can typically tell by grabbing an old pair of sneakers and seeing where on the sole has the heaviest wear.) Hoka rates each of its styles for stability from neutral to stable, so you can examine which is best for you. We recommend the Gaviota 6s for ultimate support, since its frame helps disperse weight and avoids putting too much pressure on one area and prevents your strides from landing too heavily on the outside or inside of your foot, whereas Cliftons have a more neutral base better suited for general wear.

  • Cushioning: An extra-cushioned sole can help to absorb the shock of each step and help alleviate pain associated with conditions like plantar fasciitis. All Hokas are extremely plush, but we recommend the Bondi line for ultimate cushiness. Hoka also lists each style's cushioning on its site, so you can compare them side by side.

  • Heel drop:A higher drop can reduce strain on your calves and Achilles, while a lower one encourages a natural, faster footstrike. We've noted each shoe's heel drop (the difference in height between a shoe's heel and forefoot).

  • Ankle support: If you need more ankle support, look for shoes that have a higher collar. The taller the collar, the more it can help to stabilize your ankle.

Weight

Hoka has mastered the art of adding cushion without weight. Its most supportive shoes tend to weigh a bit more than those that offer more neutral support, but we're only talking about a couple of ounces — and even those are far lighter than competitors on the market.

Every pair of Hokas featured on this list weighs in under 11 ounces, with our lightest-weight pick clocking in at just 7.52 ounces. Ultimately, weight comes down to a matter of preference: Some people prefer feather-light footwear, while others prefer a more substantial-feeling shoe. Keep in mind that lighter weights may sacrifice other features, like leather details or weatherproofing, which naturally add a bit of heft.

Durability

Hoka sneakers are generally considered to be durable, and Carhart says they "typically last for 300 to 500 miles." Note that your mileage may vary depending on the specific shoe, and how long you can wear the shoe depends on your activity level; some folks won't walk 300 miles in a year while some athletes may traverse it over a month or two. If you're hoping to extend the lifespan of your sneakers, you can rotate through a few pairs of walking shoes to let the cushioning rebound between wears.

Fit

Thanks to their signature cushioned fit, Hokas offer a comfortable fit for a variety of foot types. Testers with neutral and high arches, over-pronaters and under-pronaters and those with foot pain, back pain and plantar fasciitis all found them comfortable.

A good fit means your foot has a bit of wiggle room, but the shoe is still snug without rubbing. We appreciate that the Cliftons fit the widest range of sizes, coming in wide and even extra-wide sizing, plus extended sizing from a women's size 4 to 15. If you're specifically looking for a wide toebox, the Gaviota 6s are a great pick too.

Best Hoka shoes FAQs

Can you wear Hoka shoes every day?

Yes — in fact, they're consistently among the top picks of podiatrists for their comfort and support. Most of the styles on our list hold the American Podiatric Medical Association Seal of Acceptance , which is exclusively "granted to products found to promote good foot health."

Are Hokas good for running?

Absolutely. Hokas are known for being ultra-comfortable, shock-absorbent, supportive and well-constructed, which makes them great for all-day activity. Gatmaitan calls these the "go-to shoe choice" for running "a total of about five to 10 miles a week." Carter agrees: "I've tried other running shoes, and I keep going back to Hokas. I feel like they support my feet more than other shoes."

Do Hoka shoes run true to size?

Yes, our testers, Gatmaitan, Carter and Los Angeles-based strength conditioning personal trainer Noe Vera agree that Hokas run true to size. That said, Gatmaitan says if you're a runner, you may want to size up a bit. "Since they are very cushioned and I use them for medium-long runs, I sized up a half size for comfort and to accommodate natural foot swelling during running, which is what I normally do for all of my running shoes. The 9.5 fits perfectly as expected!"

What sets Hoka shoes apart from other shoes?

The brand uses three core technologies to create the signature walking-on-clouds feel, says Jared Smith , Hoka's product line manager: A cushioned midsole, an active foot frame and a patented "MetaRocker" that work together. "We like to call it the heart of Hoka," Smith says. The signature "curved shoe geometry ... complements the natural gait cycle [and] provides more ground contact and stability" than other styles, he adds.

Gatmaitan says it's about the comfort. "What sets my Hokas apart from other sneakers is the comfort they provide and the cute classic runners look that they have!" Gatmaitan says. "They are extremely supportive for my over-pronation, and they can handle the terrain in all of my city runs. The comfort is truly worth it on both my hard and easy run days. They also make me feel cute and confident when throwing on a running outfit!"

What's the best way to clean my Hokas?

"If they get too dirty or muddy, I scrub them with a rag," Gatmaitan says. Carter adds, "I usually scrub them in the kitchen sink with a sponge and some dish soap," while Vera says, "I wash my Hokas in the washer and then take them out to air dry."
