For nearly a century, Danner has built a reputation few bootmakers can match.
That legacy was forged in the rugged conditions of the Pacific Northwest, where the brand first made its name outfitting loggers and outdoor workers with durable, dependable footwear. Over the decades, Danner has expanded well beyond its workwear roots, becoming just as recognizable for its trail-ready silhouettes as its heritage boots.
Still, streetwear is hardly Danner's primary focus.
That all changes with its latest collaboration with legendary urban clothing label JJJJound , who took the bootmaker's Mountain Light hiker and gave it a new look entirely.

Light on your feet
The Mountain Light traces its origins to the Danner 6490, which debuted in 1973. At the time, most serious hiking boots were heavy and cumbersome, often weighing around five pounds per pair. Danner took a different approach, developing a lighter boot with a single-piece leather upper that reduced seams, minimized potential irritation and required relatively little break-in.
Over the years, the Mountain Light has managed to maintain its utilitarian build while also becoming a favorite in modern menswear.

New boots, who dis?
While the Mountain Light is most famous for its brown or tan colorways, the boot now gets two new looks thanks to JJJJound.

The first is closer to a Dr. Martens silhouette than what you'd know Danner to make. Dressed in a glossy black upper, the boot goes for a monochromatic look, all the way down through the base. However, the eyelets here are silver-toned and polished. Danner does make its own black Mountain Light but the upper is more matte. The gloss on the JJJJound collab really drives home the urbanwear vibe.

Next up is the charcoal variant. This shoe sports a gray suede upper that decidedly leans more into work boot territory. It sticks with the polished eyelets, while the black sole and laces provide visual contrast. Both options have a JJJJound label woven into the tongue.
Construction-wise, nothing has changed. You still get the single-piece upper, Vibram outsole and round laces.

Price and availability
Listed as part of its fall/winter 2026 collection, the Danner x JJJJound Mountain Light boots are not yet available. Pricing has also not yet been confirmed, but you can expect these to be at least $470 like the standard version of the boot.
