Eagles OC Sean Mannion describes working with QB Jalen Hurts
New Philadelphia Eagles offensive coordinator Sean Mannion addresses the media about working with quarterback Jalen Hurts.

Jalen's been awesome.
You know, uh, I, I really think he, he, he can do anything we ask of him.
He's, he's accurate.
He's a great athlete.
Um, he really attacks the fundamentals.
That's what's been really fun to watch these, these last two weeks of phase two.
he's always coming, wanting, wanting more things to work on, wanting more things regarding fundamentals, timing, um, understanding the scheme.
Um, he's hungry for more, and that those are the guys that are really fun to work with.
In terms of skill set though, he has great arm strength, great accuracy, obviously a tremendous athlete , and he really attacks, attacks the game.
He has a great process in the meetings.
He always asks really, really thought provoking questions.
Um, he's detailed and, and attacks his fundamentals.
You know, he's always a guy who stays after practice and is, is working on things.
Those are the, those are the guys you love to work with.
The tools are not in dispute here, Mike, but it's also not in dispute that this is a vast shift for Jalen Hurts, who won a Super Bowl playing a completely different style of offense to one that we've seen when Sean Mannion was a player, as a backup quarterback in places like with the Rams and with the Vikings.
How do you, knowing that that organization as well as you do, envision him fitting into what they're trying to do now?
This is the opposite of what we saw from the Eagles last year.
Up until the final call against the Forty-Niners, it was, give Jalen Hurts things that he's comfortable with, that we believe that he can do, that he's shown that he can do.
This is now, and this is coming from up top, this is coming from all the way to ownership, because Jeffrey Lori is a fan of the Shanahan style of offense , and now they're dipping into that tree here and saying, well, if it doesn't work for you, Jalen Hurts.
Maybe we'll make a decision down the line about who our quarterback's going to be, but in the meantime, we believe that you can do this, and you heard it from Manion there saying that he can do everything that they throw at him, and they believe in his skill set.
So this is going to be very different from what we've seen the Eagles throw at Hurts, and that could be a good thing, right?
I mean, early in the season there's going to be a lot of unscouted stuff that other teams will have not seen.
I mean we're going to be.
You know, tabulating every throw during training camp and during the preseason, although given Nick Siriani's propensity to not play at the starters, maybe we won't even see him in the preseason.
So early in the season, this is gonna be a lot different, not just for Hurts, but for the defenses that he's facing.
It's gonna be a fascinating storyline to follow throughout the season, but this is, in the minds of the Eagles, a shift for them organizationally, Ian, philosophically toward an offense that the owner likes, that the front office likes, and that they want to see now on the field.
Yeah, and that makes a lot of sense because you know whether or not the quarterback likes the offense obviously is important, but really what you want to do is create a system that benefits everyone.
And you know you mentioned the potential quarterback decisions that the Philadelphia Eagles face down the road.
Yeah, I think it's fair to say it's a really big year for Jalen Hurts.
After this year, he is out of guaranteed money.
That huge contract that he signed several years ago becomes, I would say, a little more.
Year by year, and the Philadelphia Eagles, considering the overall talent on the roster, considering the unbelievable expectations of the fan base, if they do not believe at the end of this year that Jalen Hurts is the only person that can get them to the Super Bowl and to win it, then they will have some decisions to make.
So really what it seems they've done is say we're going to go find the best offense we can, best offense no matter what, and say, does our quarterback fit into this?
Offense or not, he is certainly after the kind of year and the criticism and, and everything that Jalen Hurts got last year, certainly it seems like this would be something where he would dive into, invest into, try to be the best player he could.
And if you get to the end of the year, Tom, and everything is great, and they're winning, and he gets brought back another year, he's probably get another extension anyway.
Huge, huge year coming for Jalen Hurts and this offense.
